Food doesn’t taste better or worse when documented by Instagram. Laughter is as genuine over Skype as it would be sharing a sofa. Pay attention. Take in nature, hold someone’s hand, read a book. But don’t ever apologize for snapping a photo of a sunrise after a hike, or blogging about the excitement of having a crush, or updating your goodreads account. All of these things are good and should be celebrated. Smile at strangers on the sidewalk and like your friends’ selfies. It’s all good for the human spirit.

I expected this to be critical, but instead it is beautiful.

You’re Mark Gatiss. As a queer youth, you adored Sherlock Holmes, your favorite film adaptation being one of the only in which the detective is canonically gay and “falls desperately in love” with Watson. You’ve always loved to write, and published a trilogy featuring a bisexual spy, along with gay erotica (which all started with the angsty H/W slash fanfic you wrote as a teen). You’re a strong advocate for LGBT rights and speak frequently on the need for more queer representation in the media.

Now you have the opportunity to co-write your own film adaptation of Holmes and Watson, set in modern times, with one of your best friends. What do you do? Go.

the sex positivity movement should never forget asexuals, abstinent & celibate people

being comfortable with not being interested in sex is just as important as being comfortable with having sex

i am laughing because i just started imagining a gordon ramsay-like feminist writer who, rather than helping to keep restaurants in business, goes to writers of television shows and films and chastises them for the sexism, racism, and general lack of diversity in their scripts

“YOUR SCRIPT IS AS WHITE AS THE PAPER IT’S PRINTED ON, YOU DONKEY.”

Really, what I’m looking forward to the most is just having John back home at Baker Street. Them solving crimes, blogging about it, having domestics over the milk. That is what it is all about. Just the two of them, existing side by side. Loving each other more than they ever thought possible, and living out the rest of their lives together. That is it. That is the heart and soul of their story. I miss it so much.

you know why captain america 2 is so great?

it’s because they subvert almost every trope known to the media, especially in terms of romance and gender. steve’s cute neighbor who supposedly has a thing for muscular bodies and washing machines? think again

she’s not here to flirt, she’s here to fucking save the world.

was there a big kiss and a promise exchanged at the end of the film when all the dust settles and romance — if need be — is finally ready to occur? no. a date is vaguely suggested but immediately dismissed bc you know what is more important to the captain than kissing a pretty girl?

saving his fucking friend

and who has the captain’s back even though he has his own life to return to and his own pretty girl to woo? sam fucking wilson: best bro of all the bros

that is how fucking great captain america is

women are powerful and have identity beyond the “love interest”. they’re not standing idly by until the end of the movie, waiting to make love eyes at the male protagonist. they’re not being saved, they’re doing the saving. most of them aren’t even implied as romantic candidates, they’re too busy being kickass world saving agents.

men are shown to be emotionally attached to other men and friendship/loyalty/heroism takes precedence over romance, to the point where romance isn’t played into the writing at all. really impressive stuff, marvel. i approve.
