INTERVIEWER: Who is the more emotionally vulnerable/dependent one in the relationship between John Watson and Sherlock Holmes?
GATISS: Clearly John Watson. He was a damaged war veteran drifting without purpose when he met Sherlock Holmes.
John is fiercely loyal to his friend but can be very wounded by Sherlock’s lack of feeling.
By contrast, Sherlock is a man who believes caring is not an advantage.
But slowly, slowly, John is making him more human.

We were discussing Martin Freeman’s acting this morning and conversation turned to Sherlock and John Watson.
Then this gem came out of his mouth:
“John is getting married because he needs something to do beside Sherlock.”
No he doesn’t ship it, he just went onto explain that John is fascinated by Sherlock and follows him.
I’m like “Yeah?”
