Moffat: We need someone to play John’s wife.
Moffat: Wait… Martin has a partner.
Moffat: But who can we get to play Sherlock’s parents?
Moffat: Wait… Benedict has parents.
Moffat: Where are we going to find a child to play young Sherlock?
Moffat: Wait… I have a child.
Moffat: Man I’m good at this.

I was talking to my mom last night. I just bought them the Sherlock DVDs for Christmas and they’re enjoying it and my mom mentioned she’d have to set the DVR to record season three.

I said it was fantastic and she’ll love it.

She asked how I’d watched it already.

I said…“I watched it when it aired in the UK.”

“How?”

“…..magic?”

uber-chunks:

Can we take a close look at this scene, and see how hard John is imitating Sherlock?

  • First off, his mannerisms are cold and harsh. He’s blunt, rude, and unsympathetic. Remind you of anyone?
  • He paces while Mary sits and comforts their “client”. Their poses are exactly the same as it would be in 221B. Sherlock would pace and John would sit and comfort with tea.
  • John and Mary’s living room could have looked like anything. But instead its a mirror to 221B. The couch, the coffee table. Right down to the window. Maybe the set designers are just not that creative, but I somehow doubt that.
  • John’s bathrobe. It’s blue, its stripey, and the same style favored by a certain high functioning sociopath. To me this was the biggest slap in the face about this scene.

The parallels are painful. John is Sherlock. When Sherlock gets bored, he’s rude and does stupid things (like sulk and shoot walls). When John gets bored, he storms a crack house with a tire iron. They’re both junkies. They crave stimulation. Whether it’s cocaine or adrenalin, the rest of the episode just enforces how badly they both need their fix.

After much fighting with and cursing at Premiere Elements, I finally finished this. I present to you a music video based on Sherlock Season 3. Lots of spoilers, so watch at your own risk.

It’s my first music video, so please be gracious in your comments. I accept critiques, but make sure it’s constructive, not destructive. 🙂

Can’t watch on Tumblr? Check it out on Youtube.

This is really gorgeous and she’s put a lot of hard work into it.

Sherlock’s trying to make excuses for Mary shooting him, saying that she didn’t go for a kill shot and called the ambulance, but HIS HEART FUCKING STOPPED and it was the thought of JOHN BEING IN DANGER that brought him back.

So YES Mary DID kill him.  FUCK SHERLOCK STOP TRYING TO MAKE EXCUSES FOR HER JUST BECAUSE SHE’S JOHN’S WIFE.

Goddammit Sherlock, you’re breaking my heart here.

And I’m kind of pissed at John too.  I mean I was willing to give Mary a chance at the beginning, and she was charming, fun, witty, interesting, so while it hurt to see Sherlock having to step aside for her I could accept that.  But now she turns out to be some assassin killer, who apparently has killed many people for god knows what reason, so no, I’m NOT OK with John just being all oh-I-don’t-care-about-your-past.

SHE ALMOST KILLED SHERLOCK!! THE MAN WHO SAVED YOUR LIFE!! THE MAN WHO DOVE INTO A FIRE FOR YOU!!  And he fucking cares about you and your happiness SO FUCKING MUCH he’s willing to forgive his attempted-murderer because you apparently LOVE HER so fucking much and he doesn’t want to hurt you.  So fuck you John, and your blindness.

On top of that, to protect your happy little domestic life, Sherlock KILLS for you. And he gets sent on a SUICIDE MISSION as punishment.  Sherlock was willing to DIE FOR YOU, John, and you would just go home to your happy little murderer wife with your little baby and live your happy little lives while SHERLOCK HAS TO PAY THE PRICE FOR IT.   So yeah, forget love, even as a “friend” you’re doing a marvelously shitty job of it John, much less a supposed “best friend”.

No.  I am NOT fucking OK with this.  Fuck this.  Right now I’m pissed at just about everyone in this show EXCEPT Sherlock…and Molly.  Molly’s still cool.  Fucking hell.  Fuck it all.  Season 4 better have some answers, because I am so close to being done.

THIS is pretty much exactly how I feel.

Why The Holmes Parents are Perfect for Sherlock

wellingtongoose:

Analysis of Sherlock’s parents and why their normality is vital in explaining how Sherlock became the man he is.

image

The moment I saw them I had the sinking feeling that Mr and Mrs Holmes are irreparably wrong.

Then I realise that this was only my own narcissism getting in the way of logical analysis because if one looks at them from an impartial perspective Sherlock’s parents are surprisingly right, in every sense of the word.

I explain:

  • Why the Holmes Parents fit perfectly into Sherlock and Mycroft’s background. They had to be ordinary in order to explain why Sherlock and Mycroft are extraordinary.
  • How normal loving parents can produce such eccentrically maladjusted offspring
  • What we can tell about the Holmes Brothers’ childhood from their parents.

The Holmes parents’ apparently banality appears to have spoilt many deeply held fan beliefs regarding “Mummy”. The truth is I also fell into the horrific logical trap of assuming that just because Sherlock has arrested emotional development – his parents must be utterly eccentric, over medicated, psychologically unstable, adulterers who evidently neglected him something terrible.

What we all lacked was a sarcastic voice of reason to interject with a perfectly time “really?” and an elegantly raised eyebrow.

The age old belief that parents pass their problems onto their children is definitely true but the way these problems manifest in children can be surprising and counter-initiative.

For a doctor who has been surprised too many times to actually be surprised – I really should have seen the Holmes parents’ coming because actually they fit perfectly into Sherlock and Mycroft’s background.
