The US Government: We’re not going to make it federally mandatory for people to get paid a wage they can actually live off of
The US Government: If people want to make a living, they’ll just have to work 16+ hours a day
The US Government: And if their kids end up disenfranchised because of a lack of parental involvement, well that’s not our problem
The US Government: In fact, what is our problem is creating a system that will funnel these disenfranchised youth into our prison system so they can work for corporations (that promise us money) for damn near free
The US Government: If they don’t want to fall victim to this system, then they can seek higher education
The US Government: Except such an education will be inaccessible to most disenfranchised people and skewed in favor of the financially stable and white people
The US Government: And we’re not going to make intervention programs like sex education and conflict resolution federally mandatory, because that’s the parent’s job
The US Government: The parent who is working 16 hours a day

It is so frustrating to be a Canadian. You are affected by USA politics nearly as much as as they are but have no say in the elections. It’s like being a Siamese twin to an angry self destructive alcoholic with a gun fetish.

Don’t worry Canada, the U.S. citizens don’t really have a say in U.S. politics either. It’s kind of like being the liver of an angry self-destructive alcoholic with a gun fetish and control issues.

Senate amendment 166, would remove protections from all wilderness study areas which the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has recommended be designated as Wilderness.

“If enacted, this amendment would be the largest rollback on land conservation that we’ve seen in decades,” said Brian O’Donnell, Executive Director, Conservation Lands Foundation. “Ninety percent of the lands managed by the BLM are already available to oil and gas drillers. Efforts to undermine the protection of places that provide us with clean water, places to hunt, and preserve sacred places are a slap in the face to Americans who strongly support the protection of our public lands.”

Wilderness study areas are an invaluable set of lands throughout the West that have been identified for protection because they have a unique character, provide critical wildlife habitat and outstanding recreational opportunities and preserve our cultural and historic resources. If enacted into law, the amendment would eliminate protections for more than five million acres of wilderness study areas making them vulnerable to mining, oil and gas drilling and overdevelopment.

“Removing protections for millions of acres of public lands is an affront to the huge number of Americans who cherish these lands for recreation. It would have a major negative impact on the outdoor recreation industry, which is a $646 billion-dollar part of our nation’s economy,” said John Sterling, Executive Director, Conservation Alliance, a group of outdoor businesses that support conservation initiatives. “Outdoor businesses rely on protected public lands and intact outdoor places. This approach is a huge step backwards for conservation in America and one that our businesses strongly oppose.

Sweden has recognized Palestine as a state, and Israel’s upset (*snickers* too bad)

anyway, the Israeli foreign minister got mad and told Sweden,“The Swedish government should understand that Middle East relations are more complex than a piece of self-assembled IKEA furniture, and the matter should be handled with responsibility and sensitivity,”

But oh god, it’s freaking priceless. The Swedish Foreign minister fired back: “I will be happy to send Israel FM Lieberman an IKEA flat pack to assemble. He’ll see it requires a partner, cooperation and a good manual.”

Oh, God, this is real, thank you God.
