So I was listening to John Barrowman’s cover of  "A thousand years" (which is such an OTP song anyway) and I was suddenly hit with massive mystrade feels. Like I could totally see this from Mycroft’s POV.

I mean really:

Heart beats fast
Colors and promises
How to be brave?
How can I love when I’m afraid to fall?
But watching you stand alone,
All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow.

And then it just goes from there….

i gotta know what you’d make of 3 sentence Muppet!Mystrade

“Gregory, what are you doing.” It wasn’t a question.

“Well, this here’s Kermit,” Greg gestured toward the green, grinning amphibian, “and this lovely lady is Miss Piggy,” he used the other hand to indicate the blonde, bejeweled and besequinned pig, “and the four of us are off to John and Sherlock’s to babysit, like we promised we would.”

Mycroft sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “You promised.”

Greg grinned and threw the pink and purple pig at Mycroft, hitting him square in the chest. “Come on, I picked this one out especially for you; she’s bossy and gorgeous and set on world domination. Sound familiar?”

that’s it we’re married now.

Allright, this is the one giving me fits over the title earlier. It’s gonna be multi-chapter, eventual mystrade and I think maybe case fic?:

Stepping In – When Greg hears two men arguing in an alley, he goes to see, stepping in when one pushes the other against the wall. And this is how he meets Mycroft and Sherlock Holmes.

teaser Below the cut:

The night was damp and threatening more rain as Greg left his latest crime scene. Halfway to his car, he heard an argument between two men in a nearby alley. Well, one was arguing; the other seemed to be talking in carefully measured tones. He couldn’t make out the words, but something didn’t feel right about it. Greg carefully moved towards the sound.

He recognized the junkie that had started hanging around his crime scenes, demanding to help. He was talking to a man who looked entirely too posh for this neighborhood.

Suddenly, the junkie grabbed the other’s arm and spun him, shoving him face first against the bricks as he twisted his arm and growled something in his ear.

Greg was halfway to them in a heartbeat. “Oi!” he called. “Let him go!”

The junkie sneered at him, but stepped back, only to slip and trip over some detritus in the alley. The posh man turned and tried to catch him, but there was an audible crack as the junkie’s head hit the street.

“Are you okay?” Greg asked the posh man as he reached the junkie’s side. The other man was already checking for injuries as Greg crouched next to the pair.

“I am fine. I can take care of my brother at home.” He started to reach for his mobile.

Oh there’s a lot of stuff I’m proud of, lemme look…

Okay I think I have to go with this exchange in chapter 2 of Who picks up the Pieces. It’s post-Reichenbach Mystrade, with Greg trying be there for Mycroft. Mycroft’s just had a nightmare, when Greg confronted him he actually punched him. So they’re talking about Sherlock here:

It was plain to Greg that there was more there, secrets Mycroft was keeping. But he knew better than to push or ask. “But you still lost him. Sherlock still jumped off that roof.”

Mycroft looked towards the fire. “Do you know how many times I expected him to turn up dead when he was using? That brilliant mind of his and he was burning it up. He knew I kept an eye on him, but there were still times he gave my people the slip. And the more I pushed him to get clean, the greater he resented me.”

Greg moved towards him. “All of that and this was how he ended up,” he said softly, biting back the ‘I’m sorry’ that sounded shallow even in his own mind.

Mycroft nodded. “I remember when he was brought home from hospital as a newborn,” he said to the fireplace. “So small. They didn’t want me to hold him, afraid I would drop him. I promised I never would.”

Reaching Mycroft, Greg to took the glass from his hand, watching the man who was his lover and his friend. “I know, it’s not fair.”

I guess I like it because that’s just how I see I see the Mycroft/Sherlock relationship. “They didn’t want me to hold him, afraid I would drop him. I promised I never would.”
