I guess I hadn’t realized how Ianto changes into a different person when faced with death. Jack sticks a gun in his face in “Cyberwoman” and he’s like “EXECUTE ME BITCH, OR LET ME DO WHAT I WANT”.
Then he loses his shit in “Countrycide” and dissolves into a quivering mess right up until the moment he knows he’s going to die, and then he goes badass and headbutts people. In “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” he looks horrified with Hart’s gun to his head, but yet he rushes Hart briefly with the fury that scares Hart (not easy to do). In “Meat”, he is literally shot (thankfully, the gun had no bullets), and then he’s kicking doors into people’s faces and stun-gunning them in the forehead.
Ianto switch from terrified to don’t-fuck-with-me has a thin wire of a trigger.
Ok but imagine the ride back to Cardiff after countrycide and the whole atmosphere of the car is silent and tense until u just here poor concussed ianto whisper “do you really thing I’m ganna get hepatitis from that burger?”
Ask about Torchwood and most people point towards the bay.

It’s always surprised me that Rhiannon’s conversation with Ianto in COE1 was “I hear you’re dating a man,” and not “So, I get asked once a week when you started working for Torchwood. How long did you think you could put off talking to me about that? Also, rumor has it you’re shagging Jack Harkness. I’m not sure I believe it, but you wouldn’t be the first he’s turned, would you?” which, lbr, would have been a way more fun conversation.
