sometimes i worry how quickly it seems to be fading from public consciousness that the american people didn’t actually choose donald trump

he lost the popular vote

HE LOST THE POPULAR VOTE

by kind of a lot

it still matters that all those people out there DID vote for them, it still matters that our electoral system is so fucked and so undemocratic as to elect him anyways, but i feel it’s really important we remember that the majority of americans chose hilary clinton and not donald trump

for a lot of reasons, we need to not let it fade out of public top-of-mind knowledge that donald trump was not the choice of the american people

HE LOST THE POPULAR VOTE!

Earlier tonight, I attended the Donald Trump campaign rally at my school, the University of Illinois at Chicago, which was subsequently cancelled by Trump himself due to “safety concerns.” So far, all I’ve seen in the media is “the protesters were instigating violence on a wide scale, and it was therefore wise of Trump to cancel the event.” That is a lie. Neither any of my friends, inside the venue or outside on the street, nor I witnessed any sort of conflict that was not instigated by a Trump supporter, and even those were few and far between. Any protestor retaliating against a Trump supporter was immediately called out by the rest of the crowd for not maintaining the peaceful protest we were trying to conduct. I watched a Trump supporter exit the venue, snap a Nazi salute, and stand there, unmolested save for a few choice words and hand gestures, for a few solid minutes. No violent action was taken against him whatsoever, despite the strong urges of every member of the surrounding crowd. The chief of UIC police released a statement praising how peacefully the protest was handled. The Chicago police department released a statement saying that they did not recommend the event be cancelled, as Trump claimed. The only safety threat was to us protestors at the hands of Trump’s rabid supporters, and you can be damn sure he didn’t cancel the rally on that account. The real reason Trump cancelled tonight’s event was because he’s a coward who can’t handle speaking to a crowd which largely opposes him. He’s accused us of denying him his right to free speech, even though that’s his M.O. whenever someone tries to speak up at his rallies. The only reason Trump cancelled tonight’s event is because he couldn’t throw all of us out, and even if he could, it only would have revealed how few were actually there in support. Don’t believe anything else you hear, because they weren’t there.
