We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.

After 87 courageous years on this earth, Holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Elie Wiesel (September 30, 1928–July 2, 2016) has left us — and left us his timeless, increasingly timely wisdom on our shared responsibility in ending injustice.

For some reason thinking about childhood things:

1) I graduated elementary school twice. At the end of 5th grade, i graduated and would have gone to middle school, but we moved, I did 6th grade, graduated and went on to Jr. High.

2) I’ve literally told stories long as I can remember and pretty sure I’ve been writing them since I learned how to write. I wrote a story on the typewriter when I was six.

3) When I was little I used to tell my brother stories about someone stuck in a giant cake-world thing. We shared a bedroom and made our parents nuts because i’d be talking long after bed time.

4) My brother and I also had a story-game where one would tell a chose your own adventure type story and the other person could only use items of a certain letter. G was generally off limits because a gun was too easy to use against monsters.

5) I used to act out Hans Christian Andersen stories with my barbies, especially little mermaid in the bath. Before the movie ever came out. (It’s always made me happy that I read somewhere that Andersen used to act out stories with his dolls too)
