eventually he gets the dog calm and submissive enough; sherlockās jaw drops watching this man tame it by pat pats on its head and belly scritches

I came out, I just saw this huge line of people, I sad: is that? Is that? What is that for? Is that for some event? – No, this is for tomorrow. Itās for what youāre doing tomorrow. – I sad: What? I mean what? How long have they been? – All day! – What all day? In this heat and theyāve got water? – Yes, some of them, some of them donāt, you know ā¦ – I sad: What are they, are they going to live on the street? – Yeah. – Can I go and talk to them? And there was lots of sort of furtive looks between the security: I donāt know. I mean thatās, we can make it work if you really want to. – I was: Yeah, hell do I do. I want to meet the people who make all this possible. Cause itās all about that, itās all about them. Itās about their enthusiasm, their devotion and itās overwhelming and utterly humbling, whether theyāve come from miles, whether they put all their effort into cosplay, whether they stood in line for literally days, itās inspiring and humbling and reminds you what itās about.
Honestly, ever since becoming a fanfic writer myself Iāve become like 500% more understanding and patient about other authorsā update schedules. An author takes 6+ months to post their next chapter? Yeah, totally get that real life can get in the way. An author abandons a fic? Disappointing, but it it happens- sometimes inspiration for a story just dies. An author apologizes about taking so long to post a 10k word chapter? Dude, thatās like 18-20 pages on Word single-spaced. It takes me at least a week to write an essay for school a quarter the length of that, and thatās with a deadline.Ā
Itās probably the most important thing writing fanfic has taught me, tbh. How to fully appreciate the hard work someone else has put into their story. How important the role of the audience is to an author. And that no matter what, you are never entitled to demand more of a story that you are getting for free.Ā
