Lin’s not chill, he’s just tired
Me: Lin is just so cool.
Mom: Yes, you’ve mentioned that before. What made you say it just now?
Me: I don’t know, I mean he won a Pulitzer Prize and all this great stuff and he just seems so untouched by the fame. Like the way he dresses is just so chill and nonchalant.
Mom: It’s the baby.
Me: Huh?
Mom: He’s probably just tired. He has a kid now right? His first one? Yeah, he’s not being chill. He’s tired.
Me: Well-
Mom: No I’m right. See, I remember because I have 5 of them and I’m tired all the time. It’s the kid.
Your mom knows what’s up.
The problem with suicidal thoughts is that they’re not just there when your sad. You’ll be there, chillin, reading a book or talking to a friend and you’ll think ‘This is nice. But do you know what would be better? Death.’
@lumos-vs-nox This is referred to as “mild suicidal ideation“ or the desire for suicide without substantial action behind it. It often happens when someone deals with prolonged mental health issues and suicidality at a young age. When you’re young, we go through a period where our neural pathways completely rearrange- the things that happen to us at that time will influence these changes. In a way, suicidal ideation becomes an ingrained coping mechanism. A sort of “well at least suicide is always there for me”. Your brain is part-muscle, it remembers things, it learns, it’s super great at adapting, this is just a reflex. It doesn’t mean you are weak, it doesn’t mean you aren’t in recovery.

Hi Mark :) Any words of wisdom on how to deal with negativity in your life?
That’s tough. To be totally honest with you I have been dealing with negativity in one way or another my whole life. Now I find myself avoiding it as much as possible. I guess you need to ask yourself what you are actually getting out of it? What do you get from being negative? What do you get from chasing to be around negative people or situations or feelings? Usually we are engaged in something because there is a reciprocal relationship happening with that thing. I think once you understand that you can start to be less reactive or less habituated toward negativity. For me negativity was a way of dealing with fears. I still struggle with it today. I think in life sometimes the best thing we can do is to just accept things like negativity as just something that is part of our character and then begin to find ways of managing it. Management is the key to finding serenity i think.
