TORCHWOOD: IANTO JONES WILL RETURN IN OCTOBER
from the press release:
“The new story will be released in October, allowing for an unbroken run of stories from September. Four more releases will follow at monthly intervals into 2016.
“There was originally going to be a gap after the first release,” explains James, “but we soon realised that everyone we spoke to was being so helpful, we’d be in studio a lot earlier. Actors, writers, agents, BBC Worldwide have all been amazing – ‘Well, since it’s Torchwood’ everyone kept saying. So it’s coming out early. Since it’s Torchwood.”
Aww, thanks for tagging me, but I assure you, you don’t need to alert me to anything Torchwood. Any time any Torchwood news comes out it instantly downloads straight into my brain.
Naturally I am overjoyed that the new audios are going to be a thing. I’m going to listen as soon as they come out and then relisten a few times, and then annoy everyone I know with my thoughts about them for weeks after. Who knows maybe I’ll podcast about them too if Boom is game.
I don’t think this means they’re bringing Ianto back, I think they’re just placing the stories earlier in the canon, like they did for The Devil and Miss Carew and Submission. I honestly hope it’s between seasons 2 and 3 instead of seasons 1 and 2, or before season 1. Cause although I love Tosh and Owen, my favorite Torchwood stories are Jack, Gwen, and Ianto stories. I’m actually concerned that there wont be any team Torchwood interaction at all in these, what with only John Barrowman and some unknown voice actors on the cast list for the first one, and only Gareth on this one. Honestly, the thought makes me care less about these than I would like to. What I’m hoping is that these one character focused episodes lead into actual team focused episodes down the line.
God, I hope so. House Of The Dead was a really nice send-off for Ianto and I think most of the (sensible) old school fans would be pretty annoyed at their gall if they decided to bring Ianto back after like 5 years. I’m surprised GDL was willing to do this since he said no more Ianto ages ago, but y’know, money I guess, since he’s got 2 kids now. Now I think I’d mostly be kinda wary about writers royally fucking up the characters since it’s been so long. I mean, it’s James Goss so they’re in okay hands, but still. He did Almost Perfect which is literally the worst of the Torchwood novels, but he also did HOTD which redeems him somewhat. I’m just super wary about this new stuff after so long.
I couldn’t even get past the first chapter of Almost Perfect
