Sholto wasn’t the first commanding officer John had slept with… nor was he the longest standing ‘relationship’ John had had in the army. No, that honor went to one Colonel Sebastian Moran. John had lost track of Sebastian after he’d been discharged over something John still wasn’t clear on. So when he came face to face with him at the pool his surprise couldn’t have been greater.
If Sherlock or Jim either one ever picked up on the fact that John and Sebastian looked like they’d been fucked hard and used after the incident, neither ever spoke of it.
Every once in a while, Jim and Sherlock ‘lose track’ of their favorites for about six hours. It’s all either genius can do to keep from rolling his eyes and pointing out the love bite that isn’t quite covered, or poke fun at how one of them is walking. BothJim and Sherlock politely ignore that the two of them are carrying on their little affair… At least to John and Sebastian’s faces.
The texts they send one another about the ridiculous attempts to hide it are another matter entirely.
which Ten episode is that?
it’s the end of time part 2.
I know this must have been giffed a thousand times by now, but I wanted my say in this scene.
This was the moment, I think, when Martin Freeman became my favorite actor.
The man is brilliant, no question about it. I think Sir Ian McKellen once said something about him being able to convey two thoughts at once. Thats something I admire in acting, because you can see so many different things at once, and interpret it in many different ways. Martin excels at that here. He is thinking not just two, but a million things. Not like thoughts of knowledge like Sherlock and his deductions (not that that isn’t amazing as well), but with his emotions. Confusion, loss, betrayal, hurt, love, hopelessness; no matter what emotion I always see more than one.
Im not an expert at this stuff. All I know is that in any emotion driven scene Martin is in the power behind it stays, even when I watch it over and over and over again. It stays with me and I cant help looking back and seeing if I missed anything, if I could catch anything else in his performance. He’s like a living, breathing novel. Which is Ironic considering how many roles from books he plays. I must be repeating myself, but I cried so hard in this scene. And its not just Martin. It’s also the directorial choice of cutting off the sound at the moment we, as the audience, wanted to see the most between him and Dawn. We will never know what they said, or even try to because I can’t even read the lips. Thats for the best, because it made the moment personal and intimate like it should be. They shy you away just enough so you cant see, yet show you everything at the same time.
Tim’s final look killed me, absolutely crushed me. Made me feel as hopeless as he did. Yet you can see the bitterness behind it as well, like he’s upset with Dawn for choosing Lee, and/or that the camera crew followed him. Yet again two thoughts.
The Emmy is highly deserved, in my book.
Once you were a child. Once you knew what inquiry was for. There was a time when you asked questions because you wanted answers, and were glad when you had found them. Become that child again … You have gone far wrong. Thirst was made for water; inquiry for truth.
