Food doesn’t taste better or worse when documented by Instagram. Laughter is as genuine over Skype as it would be sharing a sofa. Pay attention. Take in nature, hold someone’s hand, read a book. But don’t ever apologize for snapping a photo of a sunrise after a hike, or blogging about the excitement of having a crush, or updating your goodreads account. All of these things are good and should be celebrated. Smile at strangers on the sidewalk and like your friends’ selfies. It’s all good for the human spirit.

hercules shipwright as a father figure to arthur is super important
bc herc obviously values arthur and is willing to tell him that he’s proud of himlike the first time they ever met herc said he was impressed
and what’s even better is that herc was impressed by and valued the side to arthur that gordon probably despised, his optimistic cheeriness in the face of problems and his ”childishness” wanting to play games. and like even other people who care about arthur don’t encourage him in that very often (he tells wendy in wokingham that he loves playing games and can never get anyone to play with him)i bet at first arthur doesn’t really know how to react to having someone he looks up to approve of him and he wants to keep herc being proud of him and so he tries to be as helpful and polite and not silly towards herc as he can and does things like spend ages trying to work out how to make vegan coffee (and failing because he ends up putting milk in it anyway but herc tells him not to worry)
one time arthur gets worried because carolyn and herc are snapping at eachother and he;s scared it’ll end up like gordon and carolyn did but herc notices that arthur’s looking stressed and raises his eyebrows pointedly at carolyn and concedes the debated point until later and takes care to make sure that arthur knows they’re not seriously fighting, just bickering (“like skip and douglas do?”)
herc likes arthur a lot and doesn’t want arthur to be disappointed in him
