Brief Interlude Before the Storm

Brief Interlude Before the Storm

The first thing I did last night was start a fanfic where the last five minutes didn’t happen and John went to rescue Sherlock from Eastern Europe…

annejamison:

points if he finds Sherlock in retail panic, completely immobilized by the vast array of athletic shoes now available on Wenceslas Square: “I was meant to meet an orientalized Romany informant who would sell me opium and state secrets! BUT ALL I FOUND WERE TRAINERS!”

But all is well. John Watson smashes through the elegant pastry counter on the other side of the shoe store, gun aimed with precision at the cowering if well-coiffed salesperson. In a loving yet manly way, he ushers his traumatized friend from the scene. John’s face trembles as he meets Sherlock’s glazed eyes, his medical training noting with compassion the combined effects of severe opiate and crime scene withdrawal. “Sherlock. Shooting to kill is one thing. But  I will not rest until the people who sent you to a pedestrian shopping zone are made to suffer.”

Sherlock gazes up, his eyes filled with unshed tears. There was a reason he prized this man above all others. But he isn’t good enough. “John,” he said, “Sherlock isn’t really a girl’s name. I can’t give you what you need.”

John sighed. “I can’t give you everything you need, either. You’re jonesing, and I’m too morally upright to buy you drugs or discuss treatment options other than cold turkey, which is the manly way although it rarely works. But Sherlock—we can compromise! I knocked over a pastry counter to get to you, and because this is Eastern Europe, it was full of poppyseed cakes! Hundreds of them. And I stole them. For you. See? you aren’t the only one willing to compromise his ethics for a friend.”

John fills Sherlock’s shaking hands with sticky cakes and buns. Then he coats his fingers with the sugary black paste and shoves them into his friend’s open, eager mouth. Sherlock moans with pleasure, then whines at the loss. “Sherlock. We couldn’t give our daughter an nontraditionally gendered name. But we did the next best thing. We named her after your addiction. And when she’s falls into bad habits, we just repeatedly slap little Poppy in the face.” He smiles. “And Mary’s going back to her career soon, so there will be plenty of crime scenes. Come home. We know how to take care of you.”

“John,” said Sherlock,  "I can’t think of one thing to say.“

well THIS is far better then what I was going to write. lol.

After much fighting with and cursing at Premiere Elements, I finally finished this. I present to you a music video based on Sherlock Season 3. Lots of spoilers, so watch at your own risk.

It’s my first music video, so please be gracious in your comments. I accept critiques, but make sure it’s constructive, not destructive. 🙂

Can’t watch on Tumblr? Check it out on Youtube.

This is really gorgeous and she’s put a lot of hard work into it.

I needed to write something about yesterday’s episode, so here’s a short something:

Affrimation –  When Sherlock comes home from the hospital he finds John moved back in and ready to claim what is his.

teaser below the cut

John was sitting at the table eating lunch when Sherlock came into the flat.  “Get a proper discharge this time?” he asked, not looking up from his laptop.

Sherlock waved some papers. “As good as can be expected.” He came and sat down across from John. He could feel the man deducting as he looked him over. He’d know John had moved back in, hadn’t been sleeping well, hadn’t spoken to Mary, but was still wearing the ring and keeping up appearances. Chewing his food, he met Sherlock’s eyes and took the ring off his finger, setting it on the table between them.

Reaching over, Sherlock took John’s hand, studying his eyes. Putting down his fork, John brought Sherlock’s hand to his mouth, lips just brushing the back of his hand. He visibly shivered at the touch.

Whenever someone says that johnlock couldn’t be canon, because it would ruin the source material, I always have to mention Granada Sherlock Holmes.image

Produced in a time when suggesting that Holmes and Watson might have been in a romantic or sexual relationship could get you black listed from Sherlockian communities, this series thumbed its nose and pushed as many boundaries as it could.

image

One of the first screen adaptations to showcase the equality in the partnership between the two men, it gave us a Watson who was anything but the bumbling oaf he had been in previous works. This Watson was intelligent, strong, protective, and loving. When he wasn’t doctoring his Holmes after scrapes, he was comforting him in his failure, or helping to direct him toward success.

Rather than marry Watson off, Granada kept him a happy, if often put upon, bachelor. This deviation from the source Canon was handled smoothly, by occasionally sending Watson on much needed holidays or keeping him busy at his surgery, for stories that needed the men to be separated at the beginning.

Beyond the less than subtle hints into the nature of the relationship between Holmes and Watson, Granada is noted for including a story line in one of their most well known films that dealt with why that very relationship needed to be kept a secret. Working off of a few scant lines found in the original Charles Augustus Milverton, the film The Master Blackmailer featured a subplot of a soldier taking his life, when his love affair with a man is found out. This is a subject which leads to Lestrade making the remark that it isn’t the first time it has happened to a soldier, and it certainly won’t be the last, a remark that ends with Watson all but slamming the door to Baker Street behind the inspector.

There is hardly a scene throughout the show- which ran for a decade, and included five feature length films- that doesn’t show the gentle intimacy between Holmes and Watson. Whether he is threatening an armed man with a chair, insisting that his detective eat, or jumping between Holmes and a hired thug, Watson is every inch the devoted companion. As the series progresses, and the actors change, Watson subtly evolves from a man who loves the excitement of the world Holmes has shown him, into one that wants them to slow down and think of the future. There is a delightful scene in one of the later episodes, which shows Watson obviously relieved to learn that there is money in Holmes’ family.

And of course, nothing says canon otp, like giant floating rainbows splashed across the backgrounds of their scenes together.
