Which is what makes him such a compelling character. Because you can see the potential.

I have a headcanon that the reason Jack wears the Coat (after he becomes head of Torchwood 3, if you notice, not before), is because it reminds him of 1940 and meeting Rose and the Doctor and how they made him want to be a better man, and he’s trying to rebuild Torchwood in their honor.

jazzforthecaptain:

I kind of want to call Sam/Jack/Cas Sharkstiel. Poor Sam only gets one letter, but it conjures up quite the mental image of blood and mayhem.

I mean, imagine that conversation:

“So what do you ship?”

“I ship Sharkstiel.” [ dramatic electric guitar chord ]

I also approve of this ship name and might have to start using it in every day conversation.

Also, don’t forget, barrowman was totally in Shark Attack 3, with that immortal line..

I wrote a jack/cas story. This one takes place in the far future, because why not? And it might be multi-chapter, the potential is there.

4173 – Far in the future, Jack Harkness is still trying to fight for what is right. Castiel comes at the right time.

teaser below the cut

Captain Jack Harkness glanced at his team. Three humans,a Cheem and a Judoon. With a gesture they moved into place and with a final signal they attacked. It took all of three seconds to realize it was a trap. “Fall back,” he yelled, trying to buy time as the demons swarmed. But the exit was blocked and while they fought desperately, Jack saw each of his team fall one by one. When the last one was dead, Jack reached into his coat and pulled out a bomb. He grinned and pressed the button as the demon fighting him tried to call for retreat. Then it went off.

When Jack woke he was in agony and alone. Squeezing his eyes shut, he tried to keep in the screams. It wouldn’t do any good anyway. Suddenly there were faint footsteps among the corpses. He forced his eyes open and looked up into deep blue eyes.

Feverpitchfiasco and I were talking about Jack Harkness and his capacity for darkness. I’d mentioned how utterly terrifying he could be if ever truly stopped caring. A smart, inventive, clever human with thousands of years of experience who simply cannot permanently die no matter what you do to him. Even a Timelord Victorious might eventually run out of regenerations. Maybe that’s why the Doctor disabled his vortex manipulator, or part of it, he could see the potential there. And we already know Jack has a dark side.

Thankfully, Jack tries to do good in the universe, but there is that potential for very terrible evil.
