As in all such disastrous events, estimates of the casualties varied wildly. They started at forty-seven dead, eighty-nine seriously injured, went up to sixty-three dead, a hundred and thirty injured, and rose as high as one hundred and seventeen dead before the figures started to be revised downward once more. The final figures revealed that once all the people who could be accounted for had been accounted for, in fact no one had been killed at all.

Douglas Adams in The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul

I love how Douglas Adams presents such items as parody, but it actually speaks fairly true to the nature of mainstream media.  It doesn’t matter if it’s accurate, it matters if it can be sensationalized.

A quick thought about Sherlock’s adorable dickery

professorfangirl:

We already knew Sherlock and John were something of an item couple pair in public, which makes me wonder…”All his friends hate him,” he says of John, because he read it in their faces.”I wrote an essay on suppressed hatred in close proximity based entirely on his friends.” But…Sherlock had to be there to read those faces, so I daresay he wasn’t reading their hatred toward John, but toward himself. Which is a bit heartbreaking, but also a bit charming, because oh, Sherlock, you egocentric fuck.

Jared Padalecki is now the father of two boys, and I am willing to bet money that when he’s tucking them into bed one night he’ll tell them both a story about two brothers who looked after each other and saved lots of people, the whole world, then tell them that they should always stick together no matter what because family is important.
Alright that’s it I’m done oh my god I can’t.
