I can not tell you the joy it brings me when an underage kid tries to buy GTA and when I tell them they need a parent, they go get said parent, and then I say \u201chey, this game is rated M for these reasons\u201d AND THE PARENTS GET SO APPALLED AND SAY \u201cNO WAY YOU ARE NOT GETTING THAT GAME.\u201d And the look of hatred the kids give me is so raw and pure it gives me fucking life. Damn I miss GameStop.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Keeping online matches safe from annoying 13 year olds.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><b>OKAY FRIENDS SINCE YOU LIKE HEARING ABOUT 13 YEAR OLDS GETTING OWNED LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT ONE OF MY GREATEST ACHIEVEMENTS SO FAR AS AN EMPLOYEE OF GAMESTOP.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>It was spring 2014, early in the week.\u00a0 Pretty sure it was a Tuesday, but it\u2019s been awhile.\u00a0 It was so dead in our store, I hadn\u2019t seen anyone in over 40 minutes.\u00a0 Eventually, in comes this mom and we start chatting.\u00a0 She said she was here to buy her son a game he wanted, Grand Theft Auto 5, and could I help her find it?<\/p>\n<p>Now, I\u2019m sure many of you are aware how awful Grand Theft Auto 5 is in terms of violence, gore, and sexism.\u00a0 But in case you don\u2019t, the Grand Theft Auto series has always been one of the most violent series that you can buy in stores.\u00a0 The very first GTA was banned in Brazil and condemned in several countries, GTA 5 has a graphic torture scene that is player initiated.\u00a0 GTA: San Andreas had the Hot Coffee scandal which happened in 2004 when modders found unused code in the game for a sex minigame that was player controlled.\u00a0 And that\u2019s only the beginning of the controversies surrounding the GTA series (click here to read more! <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grand_Theft_Auto_V#Controversies\" target=\"_blank\">X<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grand_Theft_Auto:_Chinatown_Wars#Controversy\" target=\"_blank\">X<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grand_Theft_Auto:_The_Lost_and_Damned#Controversy\" target=\"_blank\">X<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Controversies_surrounding_Grand_Theft_Auto_IV\" target=\"_blank\">X<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hot_Coffee_mod\" target=\"_blank\">X<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grand_Theft_Auto:_Vice_City#Controversy\" target=\"_blank\">X<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grand_Theft_Auto_III#Controversy\" target=\"_blank\">X<\/a> )<\/p>\n<p>Anyways, back to me and the Mom.\u00a0 Who will now be referred to as Mom because she is that awesome.\u00a0 Since I was behind the counter I pulled a copy of GTA 5 from backstock and started ringing her up while making polite chitchat, the usual cashier stuff.\u00a0 But everything changed when I asked for her ID because of the M rating.\u00a0 At first Mom replied, \u201cOh sure thing let me grab it.\u201d\u00a0 And started digging in her purse.\u00a0 But then what I said registered with her and she paused and looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cM rating?\u00a0 What does that mean?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh GTA 5 is rated M for violence, gore, bad language, and other stuff\u201d.\u00a0 I won\u2019t bore you with the whole spiel I go into when I\u2019m asked about the M rating but basically I just explain why the game is rated M, what the M rating means, and that they can go on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esrb.org\/index-js.jsp\" target=\"_blank\">ESRB.org<\/a>\u00a0to see why it got that rating.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So I tell Mom about the website and she whips out her cell phone and gets on the site and starts reading.\u00a0 And she got MAD.\u00a0 She starts telling me about how her son knows she doesn\u2019t like this sort of game and how he is going to be in so much trouble because he knows better than to ask for this sort of thing as she doesn\u2019t tolerate this in her house.\u00a0 And he is so grounded for thinking he could get away with this.\u00a0 Then, Mom looked me in the eye and asked me to look up several other games for her to see if he\u2019d done this with any other games.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYea sure thing, which games would you like me to look up?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBioshock 2.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can already tell you without looking that Bioshock 2 is rated M.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMY CHILD IS SO GROUNDED FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR.\u00a0 What about the first Bioshock?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYep, that\u2019s also rated M.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOH MY GOSH, what about Gears of War?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat entire series is rated M.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To spare y\u2019all from another 10 rounds of that, basically take every popular M rated title from the last 5 years and insert them in the above dialogue.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Eventually, Mom says \u201cOh my gosh, you must think me a horrible parent.\u00a0 I can\u2019t believe I let him have those games.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMa\u2019am, I don\u2019t think that at all.\u00a0 The fact that you\u2019re concerned about this tells me that you are a good parent.\u00a0 And just so you know instead of throwing out those games you\u2019re more than welcome to trade them in here and get some store credit or cash back for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReally?\u00a0 I\u2019ll have to do that, I don\u2019t want him playing those games anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYea, we also take gaming consoles, iphones, and tablets too!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh that\u2019s wonderful!\u00a0 Thank you for being so patient with me and telling me all about this. I\u2019m going home and to go through his gaming collection right now!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And off she went, leaving me bored till I finally got to leave for the night.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i><b>BUT THAT\u2019S NOT THE END.\u00a0 THIS IS WHEN SHIT GETS<\/b> <b>AWESOME.<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<p>The next day I\u2019m working again, bored out of my goddamn mind.\u00a0 There\u2019s only so many times you can alphabetize the store before going insane.\u00a0 As I\u2019m looking out the window I see a car pull up and Mom hops out and then pulls out two huge duffel bags and walks in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHey welcome back to Gamestop!\u00a0 What can I help you with!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh I\u2019m so glad you\u2019re here!\u00a0 So last night I went through my son\u2019s game collection and most of them are rated M!\u00a0 So I decided to teach him a lesson about why you don\u2019t lie to your mother.\u00a0 Seeing as I bought him these consoles and most of the games were bought with my money, his game consoles and games actually belong to me.\u00a0 Therefore, I would like to trade in all this.\u201c\u00a0 And proceeds to pull out his XBox 360, PS3, and every game he had for both consoles (over 50!) as well all the extra controllers and headsets he had.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you sure?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbsolutely.\u201c\u00a0 I will never forget her smile when she said this nor the look in her eye.\u00a0 This is not a woman to be crossed.<\/p>\n<p>So I traded everything in and she got back over $300 in store credit for everything.\u00a0 And with it she bought a Wii, a couple extra controllers, and a couple games rated E.\u00a0 Then she looked me in the eye and asked if we had any extra boxes laying around for the XBox One and if so could she have one?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you going to put the Wii in it and give it to him?\u201c\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u00a0 Along with a note saying that this is what happens when you abuse the trust of your mother.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to make sure this never happens again.\u201c\u00a0 It is at this point that Mom ascended to God Tier status with all Gamestop employees falling to their knees for a chance to bask in her glory.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I got her an XBox One box and sent her on her way after asking her to take the survey on the receipt.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh of course dear, you\u2019ve been such a big help.\u00a0 Let me write down your name so I don\u2019t forget it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course!\u00a0 I\u2019m Lexi, but if your son asks my name is Deegan.\u201c\u00a0 (Deegan was my store\u2019s manager at the time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And then she left, leaving me with the best trade numbers of the month and the greatest story I\u2019ll likely ever be apart of at GameStop.\u00a0 Mom, I never got your name, but you are my personal Gamestop Hero.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Man when I worked at best buy it was always the sneering chunky white kids with the buzz cuts telling their grandmas to buy them GTA and as they were getting out their wallets I\u2019d be like \u201cma\u2019am pardon this but in this game you can hire working girls and then run them over for your money back\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So many little shits called me a bitch in those two years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I was a kid who played M games WAY too early (Silent Hill 2 at 10 will do some damage) and now that I\u2019m older I\u2019m not\u00a0\u201ctoo cool\u201d to admit that I shouldn\u2019t have and ratings exist for a reason. My dad played GTA with me in my early teens and did the whole\u00a0\u201cit\u2019s a game\u201d speech and I got that fine but I guarantee you most of these kids\u2019 parents are not that active in their gaming lives whereas my dad would play them first or with us.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At a young age my sister and I got a lot more out of Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, random racing games and other platformers than we did any M game anyway.
