Watching
\nHan get murdered by his son changes the direction of Finn\u2019s life as
\nradically as his decision not to shoot at Tuanul did. It is in that
\ninstance he goes from \u201cI\u2019ll help get the shields down because it\u2019s
\nthe right thing to do, but mainly I\u2019m here for Rey and when we\u2019re
\ndone I\u2019m outta here\u201d to \u201cOkay, I\u2019m done. I\u2019m fighting back!\u201d<\/p>\n

You
\nsee the change written clear as daylight on his face on his face
\nafter Han\u2019s murder.<\/p>\n

From
\nshock and horror.<\/p>\n

Into grief and angry determination.<\/p>\n

\"image\"<\/figure>\n

When
\nKylo flings Rey into a tree and yells \u201ctraitor!\u201d at Finn it
\nfurther cements his decision to fight. But the choice itself was
\nalready made before that moment.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

That
\nHan\u2019s death has this tremendous impact on Finn should not come as a
\nsurprise.<\/p>\n

Overall
\nSolo treats him and Rey kindly \u2013 thanks Finn for helping Chewie,
\noffers Rey a job, and after Finn makes it clear that he\u2019s leaving
\nSolo doesn\u2019t judge him and tells to keep the rifle \u2013 which I doubt
\nis something that Finn is used to.<\/p>\n

Clearly Solo is a man he knows about and has admired. When they\u2019re\u00a0\u201cintroduced\u201d, Finn speaks of him as the\u00a0\u201cRebellion General\u201d in a tone that is entirely favorable.<\/p>\n

But still Han is a man who isn\u2019t perfect, he too is running away, but after Takodana Solo rallies and tries to do the right thing.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

So
\nI think in Han, Finn sees both something of a farther figure, as well
\nas a man not unlike himself.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

But
\nthis alone is not the entire reason why Finn reacts so strongly to
\nHan being murdered that it changes his path, the context of how the man is killed is equally
\nimportant.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Finn
\nis not a man to bemoan his fate or part, or wish for things to be
\ndifferent than they are, but you can\u2019t tell me that somewhere deep
\ndown Finn isn\u2019t wishing that someone \u2013 anyone \u2013 had come along
\nand offered him a way out of the First Order. Instead he had to rely
\non luck and the kindness and understanding of strangers when he
\nescaped. He was lucky with the people he met and he knows that.<\/p>\n

And
\nhere is Kylo, being offered this exact thing<\/i>. Han says to his
\nson \u201ccome home, we miss you\u201d and for that Kylo murders him.<\/p>\n

From
\nthat moment on there is no option but war between the two of them as far
\nas Finn is concerned. Finn might have been able to accept Kylo
\nrefusing the offer – even if he would never understand why – but when
\nKylo kills Han, Finn forever becomes his enemy.<\/p>\n

So
\nwhen Kylo Ren confronts Finn out in the forest and arrogantly tries
\nto claim part of his heritage after murderously having rejected
\nanother part, Finn has only one answer for him. An angry and defiant<\/p>\n
