Dorothy: \u00a0Not so fast. \u00a0There are some things I have to say. \u00a0There are a lot of things that I have to say. \u00a0Words can\u2019t express what I have to say. \u00a0[tearing up] \u00a0What I went through, what you put me through\u2014I can\u2019t do this in a restaurant.<\/p>\n

Dorothy: \u00a0Sit. \u00a0I sat for you long enough. \u00a0Dr. Budd, I came to you sick\u2014sick and scared\u2014and you dismissed me. \u00a0You didn\u2019t have the answer, and instead of saying\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m sorry, I don\u2019t know what\u2019s wrong with you,\u201d you made me feel crazy, like I had made it all up. \u00a0You dismissed me! \u00a0You made me feel like a child, a fool, a neurotic who was wasting your precious time. \u00a0Is that your caring profession? \u00a0Is that healing? \u00a0No one deserves that kind of treatment, Dr. Budd, no one. \u00a0I suspect had I been a man, I might have been taken a bit more seriously, and not told to go to a hairdresser.<\/p>\n

Dr. Budd: \u00a0Look, I am not going to sit here anymore\u2013<\/p>\n

Dr. Budd\u2019s date: \u00a0Shut up, Louis.<\/p>\n

Dorothy: \u00a0I don\u2019t know where you doctors lose your humanity, but you lose it. \u00a0You know, if all of you, at the beginning of your careers, could get very sick and very scared for a while, you\u2019d probably learn more from that than anything else. \u00a0You\u2019d better start listening to your patients. \u00a0They need to be heard. \u00a0They need caring. \u00a0They need compassion. \u00a0They need attending to. \u00a0You know, someday, Dr. Budd, you\u2019re gonna be on the other side of the table, and as angry as I am, and as angry as I always will be, I still wish you a better doctor than you were to me.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
