That this facade they put on for the rest of the world <i>is <\/i>a facade, and that only after getting to know them do we really get to see their flaws, their quirks &#8211; the things about them that make them <b>human.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>So why do we erase that?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Why do we ignore the fact that they screw up sometimes, that they don\u2019t always have the right thing to say, and sometimes they need to lean on people for support?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no shame in being imperfect. There\u2019s no shame in having emotions and feeling things deeply and making mistakes and needing help. These aren\u2019t bad things.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But we never seem to let these strong, female characters <i>be<\/i>\u00a0broken or imperfect.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Where\u2019s the fic of Peggy pushing down anxiety after anxiety day after day, and one day snapping over spilled nail polish? Where\u2019s the fic of Natasha Romanoff handcuffing herself to her bed, crying and drowning in self-loathing?<\/p>\n<p>Or, hell, where\u2019s the fic of them <i>not <\/i>looking like they just walked off a photoshoot? Where\u2019s the fic of Nat with frizzy hair and sweat pants?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>Why do we dehumanize badass female characters?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t know, I guess I just don\u2019t want little girls &#8211; and hell, grown up girls &#8211; thinking they have to be this flawless, emotionally cut-off, physically impeccable human in order to be respected.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>You don\u2019t have to give up your flaws in order to be worthwhile.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Your Faves\u2122 aren\u2019t perfect. They\u2019re not. And that\u2019s okay. That\u2019s more than okay.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Let them be ugly.
