Well uh\u2026 <\/p>\n

1.) one or both of people you see as a \u201cstraight couple\u201d could be pan\/bi\/poly\/ace<\/p>\n

2.) one or both of them could be trans or non binary <\/p>\n

3.) you could be misgendering someone<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

4.) They could be there to give moral support to a queer friend or family member who didn\u2019t want to go alone.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Number four is important<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

5. They could be there because they support the cause stop fucking gatekeeping<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

6. They could be there in memory of a loved one, don\u2019t forget Pride used to be a memorial as well as a celebration. I know a good number of straight people who go to Pride to celebrate the lives of friends and family who have died because they want to remember them as they lived, happy and joyful and surrounded by a community that loved them.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

ALL OF THE FUCKING ABOVE.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201c4.) They could be there to give moral support to a queer friend or family member who didn\u2019t want to go alone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Important note: LGBTQ+ people who are part of multiple marginalized groups might bring someone within one (or more) of those groups (or a trusted ally of said group(s)) who isn\u2019t LGBTQ+ for safety reasons\/moral support.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Also,\u00a0<\/p>\n

7) They could be questioning.<\/b> They may not be ready to tell people they are, or may not even realize it themself. Many (if not most) of the LGBTQ+ people I know initially identified as allies. Media representation is scarce, and even when we do get it, meeting people\u00a0\u2018like us\u2019 in person<\/i> is so, so important to many of our journeys, even if we don\u2019t recognize we\u2019re also LGBTQ+ at first. People who don\u2019t even know they\u2019re questioning are still hurt by anti-LGBTQ+ bigotry<\/i>, and attending LGBTQ+ events could be lifesaving. <\/i>For many of us, saying\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m an ally\u201d is our first step to coming out as LGBTQ+ to ourselves.\u00a0<\/p>\n

8) They could know <\/i>they are LGBTQ+ and not be ready or able to come out. <\/b>Going as\u00a0\u2018an ally\u2019 works as cover for a lot of people who are only partially out, or not out at all. Allowing\u00a0\u201callies\u201d works as a cover that can literally save lives<\/i>.<\/p>\n

9) I\u2019d take hanging out with a respectful ally who\u2019s willing to listen and try their best to be supportive over someone who\u2019s LGBTQ+ but homophobic, biphobic, transphobic, sexist, racist, ableist, identity policing, or otherwise an asshole.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
