How Baby #80: Savant<\/b><\/p>\n

I was having this conversation with some friends the other day about how smart <\/i>a
\n toddler can be, while also being dumber than a bag of birds. Momo seems
\n to grasp things intuitively, as all toddlers do. I mean, no one ever
\ntells a toddler that the sounds coming out of our mouths mean things;
\nthey just independently invent the whole field of linguistics
\nthemselves. They are so smart, and often in ways that we\u2019ve forgotten
\nhow to be smart: by trusting their experiences and constantly shifting
\ntheir worldview to compensate.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t give much truck to any argument that hinges on something
\nbeing wrong because of that old refrain, \u201chow am I supposed to explain
\nthat to my children??\u201d I mean\u2026 the same way you explain other concepts
\nto them\u2026 or, not at all, and they\u2019ll figure it out. It\u2019s when we get all
\n our adult baggage into the conversation that it obfuscates the truth
\nthat they understand intuitively.<\/p>\n

And then, of course\u2026 there are the times they\u2019re dumber than a bag of birds.<\/p>\n
