I think basically everyone agrees that the Ghostbusters trailers fucking blew but there\u2019s\u00a0\u201cdoing a shit job of selling your film\u201d and then there\u2019s\u00a0\u201cmaking it look like you\u2019ve cast the black actress as someone\u00a0\u2018street smart\u2019 when really she\u2019s just a huge fucking history nerd"<\/p>\n

That\u2019s the point where it tips over into being damaging for more than just your box office.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

You mean the black actress is NOT cast as\u00a0\u2018street smart\u2019 but is actually at the same level of intellectual nerdery as the white characters? Maybe I should watch this movie after all.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

When she says\u00a0\u201cYou may know science, but I know this city,\u201d she\u2019s not saying it like\u00a0\u201cI grew up on the streets\u201d or whatever. It\u2019s immediately after this line,\u00a0\u201cI read a lot<\/i>\u00a0of nonfiction.\u201d Her entire thing is that the scientists all know science, but she knows THE HISTORY of the city. At one point she\u2019s griping about joining the Ghostbusters\u2026 because she expected it to be more like a book club.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

She\u2019s smart, and caring, and she\u2019s always dropping knowledge about the history of where they are. She immediately identifies at least one ghost because she knows what the building above them was.<\/p>\n
