I\u2019ll have you put in handcuffs.\u201d<\/em><\/small><\/p>\n<p><small>&#8211; Sacheen Littlefeather in\u00a0<strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reelinjunthemovie.com\/site\/the-film\/\" target=\"_blank\">Reel Injun<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>(2009), dir. Neil Diamond.<\/small><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>They were MAD, CONFUSED AND PRESSED that Marlon Brando would betray White Supremacy in this way.<\/p>\n<p>To this very day, they are TWISTED over this.<\/p>\n<p>And when Littlefeather got up there and READ THEM FOR FILTH, they GAGGED. For eons.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So I imagine there are people like me out there who\u2019ve never even heard of Marlon Brando and are extremely confused over why this is important.<\/p>\n<p>Marlon Brando was the Don in The Godfather, and in 1973, he was nominated for and won an Academy Award for it. However, he was also a huge Natives rights activist, and boycotted the ceremony because he felt that Hollywood\u2019s depictions of Native Americans in the media led to the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wounded_Knee_incident\" target=\"_blank\">Wounded Knee Incident<\/a> (which I was always taught as \u201cthe second massacre at Wounded Knee\u201d but apparently that\u2019s not the real name). He sent <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sacheen_Littlefeather\" target=\"_blank\">Sacheen Littlefeather<\/a>, an Apache Native rights activist, in his stead. Wikipedia\u2019s article on her explains the rest:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Brando had written a 15-page speech for Littlefeather to give at the ceremony, but when the producer met her backstage he threatened to physically remove her or have her arrested if she spoke on stage for more than 60 seconds.<sup class=\"reference\" id=\"cite_ref-5\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sacheen_Littlefeather#cite_note-5\" target=\"_blank\">[5]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Her on-stage comments were therefore improvised. She then went backstage and read the entire speech to the press. In his autobiography\u00a0<em>My Word is My Bond<\/em>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roger_Moore\" title=\"Roger Moore\" target=\"_blank\">Roger Moore<\/a>\u00a0(who presented the award) claims he took the Oscar home with him and kept it in his possession until it was collected by an armed guard sent by the Academy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em>That\u00a0<\/em>is what this gifset is about.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>You have GOT to read up on this. The Wounded Knee Incident,\u00a0Marlon Brando and Sacheen Littlefeather,\u00a0Anna Mae Aquash. ALL OF IT.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Someone correct me if I\u2019m wrong but she was also threatened with physical harm by actors that were there. I believe John Wayne aka the duke aka Marion Mitchell Morrison, was one of them. Reports said he had to be held back by others backstage. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I haven\u2019t read up on if John Wayne did that, but as I\u2019m related to the man (distantly but enough to have heard stories from other family members) the guy was an extreme right wing Republican who ABSOLUTELY would have stumped for fucktrumpet were he alive. And yeah, he thought himself an actually Man\u2019s Man Cowboy\u2122, not just a fucking actor, so I fully believe he would have gotten physical with Littlefeather.
