Many witnesses said that her scuffle with the police was the defining moment that incited the riots, but regardless of whether or not she threw the first punch she\u2019s an amazing woman and and should not be forgotten. She was also a woman of color and deserves just as much remembrance as Marsha P. Johnson and Slyvia Riveria and I so often see her left out. She passed away in 2014 at the age of 93 and was one of the earliest leaders of the gay rights movement! She was known as \u201cthe Rosa Parks of the gay community.\u201d She also supported work for battered women and kids!
