There are two families sharing one house, and okay, one family is a bit dead, but they\u2019re all figuring things out as they go and it\u2019s super handy to have a spare parent or two around.<\/p>\n<p>*<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMom, I\u2019m home!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s out shopping, go do your homework.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAunt Ingrid, they didn\u2019t even HAVE homework when you were alive, why are you BUGGING me &#8211;\u00a0\u201c\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I was alive we churned butter instead of our mother going to the store to buy it, do you want to learn how to churn butter?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFine, okay, homework it is.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>*<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDavid, don\u2019t walk through the walls.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOpening the door is too hard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen walk through the DOOR like your sister. Come and learn how to fix this. You\u2019re the man of the house now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNOBODY SAYS THAT ANY MORE, UNCLE ROGER.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>*<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you have a fight with David?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen why are you both making that face?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no FACE.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s what he said.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t have a FIGHT, okay\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAunt Ingrid is worried, she says he\u2019s been moping all morning. I\u2019ve never seen *anyone* dressed like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey weren\u2019t very careful about accurate costuming in these old movies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI read ALL the Sherlock Holmes stories when they were first published and I ASSURE you he was a GENTLEMAN, not like &#8211;\u00a0\u201c<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRoger, will you just let us watch the moving pictures in peace?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut they\u2019re WRONG.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t care. Shush.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>*Roger mutters about bossy women and levitates popcorn*<\/p>\n<p>*<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSteve, what happened to your face?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got into a fight.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would surmise from your bruises that you lost.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always lose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh, we can\u2019t have that! Come, I will teach you the manly art of fisticuffs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cROGER NO.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>*<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAunt Ingrid, can you teach me how to make pie?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course I can\u2026 why? I know boys do a lot of things now that girls used to, I understand that, but why pie?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like pie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can make you a pie if you just want to eat pie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026 Ava likes pie too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat girl who lives down the street?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen I\u2019ll help you make the pie. I love it!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>When I was young enough that I was still babysitting, the toddler I was looking after loved Blues Clues and a soother he was supposed to be giving up.<\/p>\n<p>His parents kept it in a childproofed cabinet when it wasn\u2019t allowed in bed, but somehow it was in his bed each morning.<\/p>\n<p>He asked me for it one night as I put him to bed. I told him it wasn\u2019t allowed at night, those were the rules. He pouted and huffed and finally said, \u201cI like my other babysitter better. She always gets when I ask.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat babysitter? I\u2019m your only one,\u201d i reminded him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe lady from the walls,\u201d he said then rolled over and pouted some more and eventually I rubbed his back enough that he dropped off.<\/p>\n<p>I won\u2019t say that the air got cold or I felt like I was being watched. But I mean. I lived in one of the purportedly most haunted towns in Ontario. I\u2019ve seen the ghost in the Theatre from the stage, and spotted the one in the Museum as I drove by one night.
