Mycroft\u2019s briefcase hits the floor of his dimly-lit kitchen with a thump. His phone is in his hand, already dialling the number that means emergency<\/i> response team<\/i>, now <\/i>\u2013<\/p>\n

\u201cNo no no no wait!\u201d A cacophany of different voices, mostly loud and American, try to restrain him. \u201cWe\u2019re here from your brother! Your brother and Anthea.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adrenaline runs, hot and demanding, down Mycroft\u2019s spine. \u201cSherlock \u2013 Anthea \u2013 this is my flat <\/i>\u2013 who the \u2013\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHenny, please, breathe,\u201d says a tall, sweet-faced man with long shining hair. He\u2019s wearing a grey jersey dress, a denim shirt, and ankle boots with a chunky heel. He steps forward and puts his hand on Mycroft\u2019s arm. \u201cWe do not <\/i>need to start this with a heart attack. Come and sit \u2013\u201d<\/p>\n

Mycroft shakes him off. \u201cExplain this intrusion, now. Please bear in mind that I can have several teams of fully-armed and highly-trained agents here in under two minutes. I advise you to speak quickly.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cOh, baby,\u201d <\/i>purrs the man, tucking his arm under Mycroft\u2019s. His accent has shifted to a Southern American drawl. \u201cThey told <\/i>me you were a James Bond, and I will <\/i>be your Bond girl, if you want me. I look damn <\/i>good in a bikini.\u201d<\/p>\n

Several of the men roll their eyes and smile. A tall, muscled \u2013 muscled, oh good Lord <\/i>\u2013 black man steps forward, his manner cool and confident. He holds out a hand. \u201cI\u2019m Karamo. And we\u2019re the Fab Five.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mycroft blinks. He does not take the proffered hand. \u201cI have so far heard nothing which will prevent me from having you escorted from the premises.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Fab Five?\u201d says an impeccably-groomed young man with soft, sweet brown eyes and a delicate, clean-cut jaw. Mycroft tries very hard not to be reminded of Detective Inspector Lestrade. \u201cFrom Queer Eye?\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

Mycroft simply raises one eyebrow. The effect is utterly spoiled by the man holding his arm, who moans theatrically and leans in close. \u201cDo that again, <\/i>honey. Do it all night, for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

A small man with bright silver-grey hair steps forward, and again Mycroft\u2019s thoughts flick to Lestrade. He, too, holds out his hand, and this time Mycroft dazedly takes it. \u201cQueer Eye, <\/i>the TV programme,\u201d says the man, and his voice is different: British, Pakistani heritage, if Mycroft is not mistaken. \u201cOn Netflix. Your brother signed you up for it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mycroft shakes his head. \u201cI cannot \u2013 I work for \u2013\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMmmm,\u201d purrs the man holding his arm, leaning his head against Mycroft\u2019s shoulder. \u201cDon\u2019t worry, we know you\u2019re a spy. We have been told.\u201d<\/i> <\/i>He mimics an appalling British accent on the last few words.<\/p>\n

The British man smiles. \u201cI\u2019m Tan. Your \u2013 Anthea replied to us when the show tried to contact you to get consent. I don\u2019t think your brother had anticipated that process. She told us that we couldn\u2019t \u2013 for obvious reasons \u2013 film you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut,\u201d says Karamo, with a calm smile, \u201cshe did <\/i>say you need some help. She made a very generous donation to the show, in return for which, Netflix were happy to fly us over here a week before our British Edition dates were due to start.\u201d<\/p>\n
