{"id":281288,"date":"2018-10-11T01:50:12","date_gmt":"2018-10-11T01:50:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.merindab.com\/private\/2018\/10\/11\/jodiewhittaker-ckerouac-am-i-rewatching-the\/"},"modified":"2018-10-11T01:50:12","modified_gmt":"2018-10-11T01:50:12","slug":"jodiewhittaker-ckerouac-am-i-rewatching-the","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.merindab.com\/private\/2018\/10\/11\/jodiewhittaker-ckerouac-am-i-rewatching-the\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jodiewhittaker.tumblr.com\/post\/178870367390\/ckerouac-am-i-rewatching-the-new-doctor-who-ep\" class=\"tumblr_blog\" target=\"_blank\">jodiewhittaker<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ckerouac.tumblr.com\/post\/178838107305\/am-i-rewatching-the-new-doctor-who-ep-for-the\" class=\"tumblr_blog\" target=\"_blank\">ckerouac<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Am I rewatching the new Doctor Who ep for the third time today?\u00a0 PERHAPS.<\/p>\n<p>But one of the things that stands out to me so much about this episode is that it washes away a lot of the things that made me frustrated about the Moffat era.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The plot MAKES SENSE.\u00a0 I feel like I could use this ep to introduce anyone to Doctor Who and it would make sense.\u00a0 It\u2019s not concerned with being THE MOST\u00a0\u201cCLEVER\u201d THING ON TV.\u00a0 It\u2019s not concerned with twists and turns and surprises that aren\u2019t earned just to prove how clever the writers are.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s fun.\u00a0 It\u2019s legitimately fun.<\/li>\n<li>The new companions?\u00a0 There doesn\u2019t seem to be a big mystery about them (*cough*Clara*cough*River*cough*)\u00a0 They seem like normal people who were just in the right\/wrong place at the right\/wrong time.\u00a0 GIVE ME MORE OF ANYONE CAN BE HEROIC INSTEAD OF ONLY THE *SPECIAL* TRAVEL WITH THE DOCTOR.\u00a0 Let me see myself in them cause I\u2019m not special, but I bet I could be if I got to travel with her.<\/li>\n<li>Showing that the Doctor is brilliant and clever and quick instead of just telling and telling and telling me.<\/li>\n<li>All the companions get to use their knowledge to help the Doctor. And it\u2019s not magic knowledge, it\u2019s things like bus drivers and police work and social media.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The Doctor never pulls a\u00a0\u2018no I have to go alone\u2019 bullshit \u2013 everyone\u2019s like\u00a0\u2018how do we help?\u2019 and she\u2019s all\u00a0\u2018C\u2019MON FAM WE\u2019RE GOING TO FIX THIS TOGETHER\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I just really like this season already, okay?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>i really resonate with your comment about the companions being normal, everyday people put into extraordinary situations that challenge them and test them as opposed to mystery boxes or Incredibly Special People\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>there was this interaction that twelve had with bill that really rubbed me up the wrong way which was this:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>DOCTOR: Humanity\u2019s doomed to never learn from its mistakes. <br \/>BILL: Well, I guess that\u2019s part of our charm. <br \/>DOCTOR: No, it\u2019s really quite annoying. [\u2026]<br \/>BILL: Why do you put up with us, then? <br \/>DOCTOR: In amongst seven billion, there\u2019s someone like you. That\u2019s why I put up with the rest of them.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>sure, some people are assholes, but even then,<i> one in 7 billion? <\/i>it just seems so antithetical to dw\u2019s core message. everyone\u2019s got <i>something<\/i>\u00a0to offer, or some capacity for change. i\u2019m glad The Chibs \u2122 is going back to basics in terms of how rtd would really focus in on how each person had something of value about them and sense of complexity, even if they were the smallest background character<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>jodiewhittaker: ckerouac: Am I rewatching the new Doctor Who ep for the third time today?\u00a0 PERHAPS.
