STATE\u00a0AREA<\/p>\n<p>They do NOT mean Spanish. They mean\u00a0\u201cfrom a Spanish-speaking country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This once caused a moron named Leah to get cut from Top Chef because she made Spanish food during a Latin American challenge and the judges were like\u00a0\u201cWhy did you make this? It\u2019s not Latin American?\u201d and she was like\u00a0\u201cThere are similar dishes at a Spanish restaurant by my house.\u201d And they were like\u00a0\u201cOkay\u2026and?\u201d and then they all stared at each other for awhile and then they sent her home and I was dying laughing the whole time.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This actually happened to a friend of mine. We shared similar experiences because I am a white passing mixed child with a very Hispanic name and he was just of white Spanish descent with, obviously, a very Hispanic name (following?)<\/p>\n<p>So while I was getting conversations like\u00a0\u201cWhy is your dad Mexican?\u201d\u00a0\u201cHe\u2019s not. He\u2019s Bolivian.\u201d\u00a0\u201c\u2026 so why does he look Mexican?\u201d\u00a0\u201cI\u2026 he\u2019s Bolivian\u2026\u201d\u00a0\u201cAren\u2019t those the same thing?\u201d\u00a0\u201cNo. No they are not.\u201d\u00a0\u201cAre you sure?\u201d\u00a0\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He was getting conversations like<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh. Your last name is very French.\u201d (with a double L that sounds like a y)<br \/>\u201cUh\u2026 no. It\u2019s actually Spanish.\u201d<br \/>\u201cSpanish? Are you sure?\u201d<br \/>\u201cYes.\u201d<br \/>\u201cHow are you sure?\u201d<br \/>\u201cBecause my family is Spanish?\u201d<br \/>\u201cOh, but you don\u2019t look Mexican.\u201d<br \/>\u201cI\u2026 no. I\u2019m not Mexican&gt;\u201d<br \/>\u201cBut you just said\u2026\u201d<br \/>\u201cSpanish\u2026 as in\u2026. from Spain.
