But whether you write something good or something bad, it doesn\u2019t mean<i> <\/i>anything. A story isn\u2019t a sign<i>. <\/i>It doesn\u2019t prove<i> <\/i>your talent or lack thereof.<\/p>\n<p>A story is something you <i>make,<\/i>\u00a0not something you <i>are.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>To return to a metaphor I used once: think about making pancakes. Sometimes you turn out an A+ pancake, and sometimes you burn the shit out of one. You make another one, they all go in the pile,\u00a0and there\u2019s always <i>someone <\/i>who enjoys the burnt ones. You would never take a single pancake and say it alone represents your pancake-making talent forever, or that it reveals how smart, interesting, or lovable you are. We can\u2019t judge your soul<i> <\/i>by a pancake.
