I mean, ants are\u00a0<em>magnificent<\/em> creatures, who\u2019ve lived for\u00a0<em>millennia<\/em>\u00a0with barely any necessity for evolving because their way of life is so\u00a0<em>efficient<\/em>, don\u2019t get me wrong\u2014 but you- you\u00a0<em>are not<\/em>\u00a0ants! You are\u00a0<em>human- beings<\/em>! You are-\u00a0<em>people<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p>Alright. Look, say I have a pebble, and I\u2019m standing by a pond, and I want to skip the pebble along the water. Pretend, in this scenario, that the pond represents the larger universe, and the pebble represent a single person &#8211;\u00a0<em>you<\/em>, even, if you\u2019d like.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So I ready my skipping arm, twist my wrist a little, let loose! And look, there you go!\u2014 skipping along the surface of the universe three or four times before finally plopping down.<\/p>\n<p>Pretend, for a moment, that that\u2019s your life span. Birth to death. You think, \u201cOh, but I only hopped across it three times. A hop, skip, and a jump, Doctor! That\u2019s not significant at all.\u201d\u00a0Except\u00a0<em>wait<\/em>! What happened every time the pebble hit against the water? There was a\u00a0<em>bit<\/em>\u00a0of a ripple effect there, wasn\u2019t there? Branching out away from the centre point of each skip in a\u00a0circumference\u00a0that keeps widening and widening, expanding over the surface of the pond.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"image\" class=\"toggle_inline_image constrained_image\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/a09e589a882c210945baf1c1f094668b\/tumblr_inline_mmpnd6C2JA1qgxxxy.gif\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>That<\/em>\u00a0is your effect on the universe. You see the results of your immediate actions \u2014 the pebble skipping on the water \u2014 but you don\u2019t always get to see the broadening effects. You are\u00a0<em>shaping<\/em>\u00a0the world around you. You have a much larger effect on the way time and space contort and form than you could ever\u00a0<em>realise<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Like the TARDIS, people are so much\u00a0<em>bigger<\/em>\u00a0on the inside. So much bigger than they\u00a0<em>ever<\/em>\u00a0could realise and most of the time ever\u00a0<em>do<\/em>\u00a0realise, and\u00a0<em>certainly<\/em>\u00a0as vast as, if not\u00a0<em>more<\/em>\u00a0vast than, the universe you live in. Blimey, you create entire\u00a0universes\u00a0<em>inside<\/em>\u00a0yourselves, with your magnificent imaginations and your ability to dream of things so much larger than what your species was originally built for.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t besmirch that. When I say I\u2019ve never met anybody that wasn\u2019t important before, I\u00a0<em>mean it<\/em>. And I know for a fact I will\u00a0<em>never<\/em>\u00a0meet somebody unimportant in the rest of my life to come. It\u2019s one of the only things I can\u00a0<em>absolutely<\/em>\u00a0say with\u00a0<em>complete<\/em>\u00a0surety.<\/p>\n<p>Because you\u2019re not ants \u2014 you\u2019re\u00a0<em>giants<\/em>. Standing tall.
