The Doctor looked up, scowling slightly as Jack Harkness set a drink in front of him.<\/p>\n
“What’s this?”<\/p>\n
“Not sure. I think maybe the local equivalent of a banana daiquiri.” Jack slid into the seat across from him, watching the Doctor eye the drink warily.<\/p>\n
Jack gave him a smile. \u201cI didn\u2019t spike it or anything, if that\u2019s what you\u2019re worried about.\u201d He was a bit a nervous, and no doubt the Doctor was picking up on that. But it wasn\u2019t every day that he tried to seduce a Timelord.<\/p>\n
The Doctor sighed and sipped the drink. \u201cI know what you\u2019re on about, Jack. Rose\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIs perfectly okay with this,\u201d Jack cut him off. \u201cSaid she was going to do a bit of shopping, maybe a pedicure, meet us back at the Tardis. If she needs anything she\u2019ll call.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYou talked to her, about this?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHey, you told her I\u2019m a fifty-first century guy. We get along quite well while you\u2019re off puttering in some dark corner pretending you don\u2019t look at her with anything other than friendship. She knows how you feel, even if you won\u2019t act on it. In fact, she encouraged me to do this. Or maybe just told me it was my funeral. Can\u2019t quite remember, now.\u201d<\/p>\n
Leaning across the table, the Doctor\u2019s eyes turned dark. \u201cYou know nothing about how I feel.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jack leaned forward, meeting his gaze, smile never leaving his face. \u201cI know what it\u2019s like to want someone, Doc. You keep me at arm\u2019s length too. So this doesn\u2019t have to mean anything else.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt wouldn\u2019t mean anything at all.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jack\u2019s heart skipped. But if that was all he\u2019d get, he\u2019d take it. He silently cursed himself. Of course he had to fall in love with the impossible ones. He leaned back again, crossing his arms. \u201cWe don\u2019t even have to go back to the Tardis.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Doctor muttered something about stupid apes as he fiddled with the straw in his drink. Jack started wishing he\u2019d bought himself one. \u201cFine,\u201d he said at last. \u201cBut we\u2019ll go to the Tardis.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
