Sherlock\u00a0 held a knife in his hand. He flipped it as he watched the strange blonde step closer. \u201cWhat are you?\u201d He hissed.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am an angel of the Lord,\u201d said John drawing himself to his full height and meeting Sherlock\u2019s eyes.<\/p>\n
\u201cAngels?\u201d Sherlock scoffed. \u201cNo such thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
John stepped closer and Sherlock darted forward, plunging the knife into his chest. John held his eyes, not even flinching. \u201cYou are the one who observes, Sherlock.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sherlock stepped back, for once at a loss for words. John pulled the knife out and dropped it to the floor. \u201cI am the one that raised you out of perdition.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sherlock shook his head as if seeking any other explanation. \u201cI don\u2019t have friends and I certainly don\u2019t have an angel sitting on my shoulder.\u201d<\/p>\n
John closed the gap between them and reached up to touch Sherlock\u2019s face. Sherlock flinched but met his gaze. \u201cI have been here far longer than you realize.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThen why show yourself now?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s work to be done. You\u2019ve never stepped back from a challenge before, will you start now?\u201d<\/p>\n
A tiny smile crossed Sherlock\u2019s lips. \u201cThe game is afoot, then?\u201d<\/p>\n
