The stands were only half full since the skies threatened rain. Jack stood with arms crossed watching Dean prepare to ride a bronc. Out of the corner of his eye, Jack saw Sam standing a few feet away, watching Dean shift in the saddle. Sam stood very still, tension evident in his flexing hands and straight back. Dean gave a nod and the gate opened.<\/p>\n
The horse came flying out, bucking hard and twisting underneath Dean. The experienced rider followed its movements as it dropped and bucked again. There was a sudden twist and Dean left the saddle, hitting the ground with a dull thud long seconds before the buzzer sounded. Jack winced in sympathy while Sam shook his head.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019ll be drunk in an hour,\u201d said Sam, walking over to Jack and adjusting his hat.<\/p>\n
\u201cProbably shouldn\u2019t be talking to me.\u201d Jack didn\u2019t look at him. \u201cBrother won\u2019t be happy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sam snorted as Castiel helped Dean up. \u201cHe\u2019ll be fine.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jack glanced at Sam. \u201cNot riding tonight?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNaw, think I twisted my wrist last night. Dean doesn\u2019t want me to hurt it worse.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jack smiled, maybe with a touch of sadness. \u201cHe takes good care of you.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes. You aren\u2019t riding tonight either.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jack swallowed, remembering. \u201cNo, not this rodeo. Next one I\u2019m already signed up for, though.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy are you here then?\u201d asked Sam. \u201cScoping out the competition?\u201d<\/p>\n
Jack looked at him, all easy smile. \u201cMaybe so.\u201d Sam met his eyes with a small smile of his own, tongue darting out to lick his lips as his brown eyes took in Jack\u2019s body with more than a hint desire. Heart skipping a beat, Jack smiled a bit broader, uncrossed \u00a0his arms and leaned back against the rail, giving Sam a better view. \u201cWant to get a drink?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
