River sat across from Jack, sipping a glass of wine and watching the rest of the bar. The crowd was mostly human, but a few other species dotted the room. Her smile brightened as a blonde man walked in. Jack raised an eyebrow and turned to see what had grabbed her attention and went pale. “Oh God.”<\/p>\n
The blonde man gave a feral grin as he flounced over and slipped into an empty seat between them. “Jack!”<\/p>\n
“John,” he said with a wince. \u00a0<\/p>\n
“So you know each other,” grinned River.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“Oh we do, but he never mentioned you.” John picked up her hand with a dramatic flourish to kiss it.<\/p>\n
River watched him with a knowing smile as he kissed every inch of her fingers and then let them fall. \u201cI\u2019ll take the ring back, thank you.\u201d She held out her hand expectantly, palm up.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Grinning, John took the ring out of his mouth and placed it in her open hand.<\/p>\n
Looking at the pair, Jack raised his hand for the waiter. He lifted his half-empty glass. \u201cGet me a double.\u201d<\/p>\n
John leaned over. “If you wanted a double, Jack…”<\/p>\n
River laughed. “Oh Jack I\u00a0like\u00a0him.”<\/p>\n
Jack threw back the rest of his drink. \u201cYou can\u00a0have\u00a0him,\u201d he spat.<\/p>\n
Undeterred, John leaned over and put a hand on Jack\u2019s thigh. \u201cCome now, more than enough to share,\u201d he said with a suggestive wag of his eyebrows.<\/p>\n
Jack pulled away. \u201cYou\u2019re wearing the lip gloss.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cCome on, not like you\u2019d stay dead very long,\u201d John purred.<\/p>\n
River raised an eyebrow. \u201cHe does know you. What brand do you use?\u201d<\/p>\n
John turned back to her, intrigued. \u201cParanthian. What do you use?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI find Halver\u2019s does a better job.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cReally? I don\u2019t think that moisturizes as well\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
Jack took their animated discussion over types and brands of paralytic lips gloss as a chance to escape to the bar and see about that drink.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
