Two years without the thing, and he still felt the vortex manipulator\u2019s absence. Jack didn\u2019t know all of what was happening out there without him, but he knew enough. That was why he chose this backwater bar, because it led the Doctor to him once, and maybe it would again.<\/p>\n<p>The time dribbled away like the bright red cocktail Jack fenced with his fingers. He focused on the rounds of ice as they slowly shrank, rifling back and back through his memories, some darkened, some shining still.
