Benedict reading Turing\u2019s letter.Alan Turing<\/a> was a human being of\u00a0exceptional\u00a0intelligence \u2014 a mathematical genius \u2014 and worked as one of the leading code-breakers<\/a> during World War II. He is also considered to be the \u201cfather of modern computing\u201d thanks to his pioneering work in the field of\u00a0computer science<\/a>. In 1950, before the term \u201cArtificial Intelligence\u201d had been coined, he posed the question, \u201cCan computers think?<\/a>“ and proposed the Turing Test<\/a>. His\u00a0achievements\u00a0are staggering.<\/p>\n

In 1952, he was charged with gross indecency after admitting to a sexual relationship with another man, and as a result was told to choose either imprisonment or chemical castration as punishment. He chose the latter. Alan Turing was found dead on June 8th, 1954, a day after taking his own life. He was aged just 41. <\/p>\n

Turing wrote the following letter in 1952 to his friend and fellow mathematician, Norman Routledge, shortly before pleading guilty.<\/p>\n
