{"id":231391,"date":"2014-01-22T07:48:05","date_gmt":"2014-01-22T07:48:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.merindab.com\/private\/2014\/01\/22\/i-like-mickey-too\/"},"modified":"2014-01-22T07:48:05","modified_gmt":"2014-01-22T07:48:05","slug":"i-like-mickey-too","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.merindab.com\/private\/2014\/01\/22\/i-like-mickey-too\/","title":{"rendered":"I like Mickey too"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"tumblr_blog\" href=\"http:\/\/dvancecinco.tumblr.com\/post\/74032183422\/i-like-mickey-too\">dvancecinco<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I like Mickey because to me, okay.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone says that the Doctor is accessed via their companion. \u00a0However, the companion\u2019s life with the Doctor becomes their new norm. \u00a0With Mickey, we see someone who comes in and out of the life. \u00a0He doesn\u2019t always react positively, he doesn\u2019t always understand, he isn\u2019t always happy about what happens. \u00a0He\u2019s kind of bitter about what\u2019s happened; because of this crazy fellow, his life has been turned upside down and his girlfriend has left him to travel through space and time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To me, I think we see without necessarily realizing, the fact that crazy shit happens when the Doctor is around. \u00a0We see the fact that there is chaos in his wake, that there are repercussions to all of his actions. \u00a0Rose peaces out to go with Nine and when they come back, Mickey admits that he\u2019s got a new girlfriend, that he\u2019s dating her because he knows where she is every night. \u00a0These are real fears. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For the companion, it\u2019s easy to get lost in the wonder of visiting new places in time in space. \u00a0Generally, the Doctor doesn\u2019t have someone there providing a reality check. \u00a0Most of the time, a companion is a cohort. \u00a0Because Mickey doesn\u2019t travel consistently with the Doctor, and because when he is on an episode he usually seems to be helping rather unwillingly, the audience gets to remember that, for instance, Rose just left it all behind without thinking. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As far as Mickey goes later on in the show, I absolutely adore how his relationship grows and develops with Captain Jack. \u00a0I think their scenes are precious. \u00a0I liked watching Mickey and Jackie interact; Mickey has become the son she never had. \u00a0He\u2019s a connection to both Rose and the Doctor but is a stable entity. \u00a0I think Mickey and Martha together was great also. \u00a0We didn\u2019t see much of them together, but what we saw really showed us some great character growth. \u00a0We see look at Mickey just 5 years earlier and see a kid who doesn\u2019t want to let go and doesn\u2019t want to believe, and then we can see him with Martha, married and hunting aliens.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I think Mickey is highly underrated as a character and I think we see him grow and develop more than really any other character on the show. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2026Wow, I think I got a little carried away. \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><p><img src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/86739e7c7ac68657c27a7fc659c4d964\/tumblr_inline_mzqm1yEiXj1rw8a11.gif\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You said everything I would have said and I think better.<\/p>\n<p>One of these days I want to write a fic about Mickey and Martha and Jack fighting aliens together.
