It\u2019s Leonard Bowden\u2019s 1953 portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. She\u2019s seated sporting the red robes of Order of the Bath. Red, red, red\u2026 Could it be that Mycroft is <em>actually<\/em> a member of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Order_of_the_Bath\" target=\"_blank\">Order of Bath<\/a>?! Obviously, yes.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Regular membership is limited to citizens of the United Kingdom and of other Commonwealth countries of which the Queen is Sovereign. Appointees are usually officers of the armed forces or <em><strong>senior civil servants<\/strong><\/em>, such as permanent secretaries.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Members appointed to the Civil Division must \u201cby their personal services to [the] crown or by the performance of public duties have merited \u2026 royal favour.<\/strong><\/em>&ldquo; (<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Order_of_the_Bath\" target=\"_blank\">x<\/a>)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Does Mycroft hold a minor position in comparison to the company he keeps? Perhaps he is simply a Companion of the Order of Bath (CB), or even a Knight Commander (KCB). But If he held the highest non-sovereign\u00a0rank\u00a0of\u00a0Knight Grand Cross (GCB) he might yet convincingly feign humble. There are three higher orders, after all:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The Order of the Bath is the fourth-most senior of the British Orders of Chivalry, after The Most Noble Order of the Garter, The Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle\u2026 (<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Order_of_the_Bath\" target=\"_blank\">x<\/a>)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Here to See the Queen<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the REAL head canon fodder: If Mycroft were a GCB he\u2019d wear the mantle of the Order on important occasions.
