and &#8216;female&#8217; literally mean you have either a penis or a vagina respectively. this has nothing to do with the words woman or man. anyone with a vagina is female, regardless of gender. same with males."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"tumblr_blog\" href=\"http:\/\/notaboynotagrl.tumblr.com\/post\/67171918400\/do-you-know-anything-about-biology-the-words-male\" target=\"_blank\">notaboynotagrl<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><a class=\"tumblr_blog\" href=\"http:\/\/rapeculturerealities.tumblr.com\/post\/66348172159\/do-you-know-anything-about-biology-the-words\">rapeculturerealities<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Ok, so\u2026 this isn\u2019t what this blog is about but since you brought it here we\u2019ll go ahead and go there but for anyone who decides they need to respond this will be my only word on the subject, any future asks on the subject will be ignored.<\/p>\n<p>In short you are wrong. \u00a0The two sex binary is a flawed social construct that literally has no basis in reality whatsoever. \u00a0Some form if intersex characteristics happen in approximately 2% of all live births in humans. \u00a0That\u2019s 2 out of every 100 which in a world with billions of people is a lot of people that don\u2019t fit into either \u201cmale\u201d or \u201cfemale\u201d and that obviously doesn\u2019t include trans* people which makes the statistics higher. \u00a0And that also doesn\u2019t include the people who aren\u2019t technically intersex but also don\u2019t fully fit the biological construct of what a male or female \u201cshould\u201d be which is far far more people that you realize or most medical doctors willing to admit.<\/p>\n<p>In our society sexing is based on 5 criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>genes &#8211; XX or XY chromosomes with variations happening for XO, XXY, and XXX<\/li>\n<li>gonads &#8211; ovaries or testes except that people with vaginas can have testes, people with penises can have ovaries, and people can be born with both ovaries and testes<\/li>\n<li>genitalia &#8211; a penis or a vagina except that people can be born with both and men can have vaginas and women can have penises\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>secondary sex characteristics &#8211; in theory men are supposed to have large amounts of thick, coarse body hair, a low waist\/hip ratio, broad shoulders, undeveloped breasts, and deep voices while women are supposed to have small amounts of fine, light colored, soft body hair, a high waist\/hip ratio, petite shoulders, developed breasts, and high voices except that in real life it\u2019s entirely possible for people to have combination of those characteristics or for men to have \u201cfeminine\u201d secondary sex characteristics and women to have \u201cmasculine\u201d secondary sex characteristics<\/li>\n<li>hormone patterns &#8211; in theory men are supposed to be high\u00a0testosterone\u00a0and low estrogen and women are supposed to have high estrogen and low testosterone but in reality there is far far more variation within \u201ceach\u201d sex than between \u201ceach\u201d sex including women having \u201cmasculine\u201d hormone patterns and men having \u201cfeminine\u201d hormone patterns all without those people having any sort of \u201cdisease\u201d or \u201cdisorder\u201d or anything being wrong with them at all. \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once we take into account all 5 of those criteria an actual majority of people don\u2019t line up with either male or female in all 5 areas which means it\u2019s not possible to classify most people along the strict binary the way people like you would like to. \u00a0So, sure, there are things in this world that qualify as technically male or technically female but the idea that there\u2019s some sort of scientific basis for a strict binary where there are only ever two options and people are only ever male or female is laughable. \u00a0It\u2019s utter bullshit and trying to force people into those boxes when they don\u2019t fit does a hell of a lot more harm than good. \u00a0Nothing positive comes from that kind of bigotry while actually being willing to accept people as they are or as they choose to identify has legitimately positive outcomes in the world. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The main source material for all of this comes from Anne Fausto-Sterling\u2019s book <em><a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books\/about\/Sexing_the_Body.html?id=NS_aAAAAMAAJ\" target=\"_blank\">Sexing the Body<\/a><\/em>. \u00a0She\u2019s got a Ph.D. in biology so I\u2019m pretty sure she knows what she\u2019s talking about and I\u2019m willing to bet she knows a hell of a lot more about this stuff than you do, dear anon. \u00a0Try educating yourself instead of pretending that you\u2019re an expert because you spent a few weeks learning the bare minimum of this material in high school at some point in your life.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>this is the best post i\u2019ve seen in a millennium<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/ba574808e3d1112be0d669847334aada\/tumblr_inline_n056a2sGwS1rw8a11.gif\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>notaboynotagrl: rapeculturerealities: Ok, so\u2026 this isn\u2019t what this blog is about but since you brought it here we\u2019ll go ahead and go there but for anyone who decides they need to respond this will be my only word on the subject, any future asks on the subject will be ignored.
