{"id":221936,"date":"2014-03-16T21:04:57","date_gmt":"2014-03-16T21:04:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.merindab.com\/private\/2014\/03\/16\/side-note-to-fan-fic-authors-4\/"},"modified":"2014-03-16T21:04:57","modified_gmt":"2014-03-16T21:04:57","slug":"side-note-to-fan-fic-authors-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.merindab.com\/private\/2014\/03\/16\/side-note-to-fan-fic-authors-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Side Note To Fan Fic Authors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"tumblr_blog\" href=\"http:\/\/twobirdsonesong.tumblr.com\/post\/79670424791\/side-note-to-fan-fic-authors\" target=\"_blank\">twobirdsonesong<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Here\u2019s the thing.<\/p>\n<p>I read a lot of scripts. \u00a0A lot. \u00a0From professionals to aspiring writers to complete newbies. \u00a0Features and pilots. \u00a0Specs and treatments.<\/p>\n<p>And 8 times out of 10 the fan fic that I\u2019ve read over the last, oh, 15 years is <em><strong>leagues<\/strong><\/em> better than this stuff. \u00a0It\u2019s more inspired. \u00a0It\u2019s more compelling. \u00a0It\u2019s genre bending and creative and heartfelt. \u00a0It\u2019s well-paced and intense and funny and sexy and <em>meaningful<\/em>. \u00a0It\u2019s smart and thoughtful and <em>good<\/em>. \u00a0It\u2019s novel-quality. \u00a0Better than, sometimes.<\/p>\n<p>Rare is the script I don\u2019t want to put down, but how often have we stayed up until 3am to get to the last chapter of a 100k fic?\u00a0And it\u2019s not even a fan fic author\u2019s day job. \u00a0This is what they do on the side. \u00a0In their spare time. \u00a0For free.<\/p>\n<p>So my point is, fan fic authors, you\u2019re <em><strong>good<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0You\u2019re good writers and great storytellers. \u00a0I know it doesn\u2019t always feel like it, especially if you\u2019re one of the authors who\u2019s not a BNF and doesn\u2019t get the notes\/hits that a few do. \u00a0And \u00a0because some people still view fic as \u201cnot real writing.\u201d You guys know the shit that gets made into movies. \u00a0You\u2019re better than that. \u00a0So be better than that. \u00a0If writing is what you think want to do, then just know you\u2019re already doing it. \u00a0 You\u2019ve already started.<\/p>\n<p>And you\u2019re more talented than you might think.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>twobirdsonesong: Here\u2019s the thing.
