Sherlock is staring at John because he’s waiting for the other shoe to drop- he’s waiting for John to say “Oh, fuck, no, you were a junkie. Never mind then, I’m out of here.”

And then John doesn’t.

John doesn’t, ever.

Try to commit suicide by ingested poisoned pill? John kills the guy, goes to dinner, STAYS.

Case of mistaken identity nearly gets him and his date killed? Makes crack about Sherlock being late, STAYS.

Nearly gets blown up by a serial killer? Tries to sacrifice himself for Sherlock, then agrees to die next to him, STAYS.

Tacitly admits he loves Sherlock to lesbian dominatrix, unknowingly in front of Sherlock? Tries to comfort him, asks him how we feel about things, sits and listens to him play violin. STAYS.

Gets locked in a lab and has a traumatic hallucination, nearly gets killed by evil dog, then by land mines, screamed at in public, humiliates himself in front of hot woman at Sherlock’s request…STAYS.

And not only stays, but commits himself to Sherlock so completely by TRF that (my own theory) they’re a non-sexual exclusive couple. There is literally NOTHING Sherlock could do to make John leave him.

Except be dead.

And even after faking his death and deceiving John for TWO YEARS…he forgives him basically right away, asks him to be his best man, tells him he loves him repeatedly, that he changed his life, jumps up in the middle of his own wedding to help him…I mean, my GOD.

There is almost nothing John won’t do for Sherlock. And it all started right here, in this episode.
