I think this is where his plan started forming: he must have <em>already found out about her connection to Magnussen<\/em> during his extensive interviews of the bridal\/groom party (if he interviewed the usher and the ring bearer, of course he interviewed the bridesmaids!)<em>.\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>So, when she asks if there is a vacancy in crimesolving, he considers recruiting her as a partner in this relationship ruse to get into Magnussen\u2019s office.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&ldquo;I wish you weren\u2019t\u2026whatever it is you are.&rdquo;<\/strong> It\u2019s clear that Janine knows that Sherlock isn\u2019t into her in <em>that<\/em> way. So it makes more sense that she was only acting to fulfill the relationship ruse.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&ldquo;So we\u2019re good then?&rdquo; \/ &ldquo;Yeah we\u2019re good.&rdquo;<\/strong> This sounds suspiciously like they had an arrangement. And it\u2019s a mutually beneficial arrangement: Sherlock gets his image tarnished a bit (to get Magnussen to underestimate him, and also to strengthen the drugs problem), and Janine gets rich from the tabloid tell-alls. Additionally, Janine also gets revenge against Magnussen, who once flicked her eye too.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>And she\u2019s still affectionate with him:\u00a0<\/strong>I don\u2019t know what duped fiance would still be affectionate with the supposed beloved who just called her a tabloid whore. Another piece of evidence that this was all part of an arrangement (and they can still be sassy with each other).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Why have a play-act a relationship at all?<\/strong> Why doesn\u2019t she just let Sherlock into Magnussen\u2019s office without the pretend engagement? Because this gives her a cover story, in case she is ever implicated as an accomplice for Sherlock\u2019s breaking and entering.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>So why was Janine angry with him?<\/strong>\u00a0I think it probably has to do with his very real drug use and the fact that he lied about where he was and what he was doing. She cares for him like a friend, but the drug use was an act of betrayal (like Molly said). <strike>And I also think she did want to play the ruse out and sleep with him, just once, and was disappointed that she didn\u2019t get to.\u00a0<\/strike><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This is a theory I can totally get behind.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>THIS IS THE BEST THEORY I HAVE EVER READ<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Not to mention that they didn\u2019t meet before the wedding time and Janine seems far too clever to think that Sherlock Holmes of all people would be proposing to her after what couldn\u2019t be more than a month of dating<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Another piece of very compelling evidence for this theory: all the lies she told the tabloids about his sexual behavior were\u00a0<em>flattering.\u00a0<\/em>If she were really furious with him, if she really wanted to get revenge on him, she could easily have filled the page space talking about what a LOUSY lay he is. Instead she decides to tell the world he\u2019s a scorching-hot sex machine.
