The judge states that the defendant is charged with possession of 1,700 milligrams of cocaine. It was found on his body, he was arrested, and he is now on trial. This time, after the Q&amp;A is over, the judge asks us whether there are any questions we\u2019d like to ask the court, and I say, \u201cYes, Your Honor. Why did you say he was in possession of 1,700 milligrams of cocaine? That equals 1.7 grams. The \u2018thousand\u2019 cancels with the \u2018milli-\u2019 and you get 1.7 grams, which is less than the weight of a dime.\u201d Again I\u2019m out on the street.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>powerful Black Science Man<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Exactly.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cI teach a class on the evaluation of evidence and the relative unreliability of eyewitness testimony.\u201d Five minutes later, I\u2019m on the street.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This is a good illustration of what\u2019s wrong with the US criminal justice system.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The great thing about this is that he got kicked out because they knew he couldn\u2019t be manipulated by twisting information.
