{"id":188289,"date":"2014-10-03T08:23:11","date_gmt":"2014-10-03T08:23:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.merindab.com\/private\/2014\/10\/03\/whenever-i-hear-the-women-are-paid-78-for-the\/"},"modified":"2014-10-03T08:23:11","modified_gmt":"2014-10-03T08:23:11","slug":"whenever-i-hear-the-women-are-paid-78-for-the","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.merindab.com\/private\/2014\/10\/03\/whenever-i-hear-the-women-are-paid-78-for-the\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Whenever I hear the <i>&ldquo;Women are paid $.78 for the man\u2019s $1&rdquo;<\/i> I flip it around.<\/p>\n<p>Men make $1.22 for every woman\u2019s $1.<\/p>\n<p>It interests me that even the most common simple measure of gender inequality is firmly based on male-as-normative \u2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class='attribution'>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/binetusa.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">bisexual activist<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/fliponymous.wordpress.com\" target=\"_blank\">queer theory blogger<\/a> Patrick RichardsFink\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>this is an interesting point, although mathematically inaccurate: assuming the women:men, 0.78:1 ratio is correct, men make $1.28 for every woman\u2019s $1<\/p>\n<p><strong>A white man makes $1.34 for every dollar that a black man makes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A white man\u00a0makes $1.52 for every dollar that a latino man makes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A white man\u00a0makes $1.24 for every dollar that a white woman makes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A white man\u00a0makes $1.44 for every dollar that a black woman makes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A white man makes $1.67 for every dollar that a\u00a0latina\u00a0woman makes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>That\u2019s some bullshit right there.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s take it a step further. For every hour a white man works, a black woman has to work 86 minutes to earn as much money. 57.6 hours a week compared to the white man\u2019s 40.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Take it another step further.
