Is it bad that while watching that early scene in Dark Water with the lava I was over here saying \u201cWell, good thing Jack still has a key and there\u2019s a phone on the outside of the Tardis.\u201d<\/p>\n

Could you imagine the awkwardness of that phone call though? \u201cUh, hi Jack, it\u2019s been a while\u2026manipulator still working? Good. I need a favor\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

I can\u2019t promise it\u2019s any good but:<\/p>\n

Jack was in the middle of planning with his current team when he was interrupted by the barkeep. \u201cYou\u2019ve got a call.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jack blinked and looked up. \u201cI better take this.\u201d He squeezed the shoulder of his second and stepped out to take it. <\/p>\n

\u201cDo you still have your Tardis key?\u201d The oddly familiar voice asked without preamble. <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course I do. What did you do, lock yourself out? Isn\u2019t there an intergalactic locksmith you can call?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJust come to my coordinates.\u201d The line went dead. <\/p>\n

Jack shook his head, opened his manipulator and started typing things in. He walked back to the meeting. \u201cI gotta take this. But I\u2019ll be back.\u201d He gave them a grin. \u201cShara I know you\u2019ve got this.\u201d<\/p>\n

He turned and walked away, taking a breath as he stepped outside and pressed a final button.<\/p>\n

When he caught his feet on the landing, the first thing he saw was the Tardis. He walked over and touched the familiar wood. \u201cHey girl,\u201d he said softly. <\/p>\n

Walking around the Tardis he found himself facing a familiar face and froze. \u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cKey,\u201d he said, holding his hand out. <\/p>\n

Jack drew back. \u201cWho are you?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know who I am. Now, unlock the door.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shaking his head, Jack watched him. \u201cHow do I know you\u2019re really the Doctor?\u201d<\/p>\n

He rolled his eyes. \u201cI thought you said the Tardis was a dead giveaway last time.\u201d He pulled the sonic screwdriver out and pointed it at the manipulator. It hummed and came to life.<\/p>\n

Jack looked down at his wrist, then moved to the door and unlocked it. \u201cYou might want to check the history of that face,\u201d he said, stepping back again. <\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t want to come in?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot this time.\u201d Jack and the Doctor looked at each other a long moment. Jack hit buttons and left before he could change his mind. There was a lot to think about.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
