He drew up his strength and knocked on the door.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnter!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>James nearly ran for it.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, he bravely entered.<\/p>\n<p>Professor McGonagall looked up from her book and crisply said, \u201cMister Potter; is something wrong?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo,\u201d James replied, \u201cNot exactly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Professor McGonagall surveyed the twelve-year-old for a moment before asking, \u201cWell, can I help you with something?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>James hesitated before saying, \u201cErr\u2026hypothetically\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>James took a deep breath and it came out all at once, \u201cHypothetically, if animals can\u2019t be infected with lycanthropy then does that mean that Animagus\u2019 in their animal form won\u2019t be infected as well?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Professor McGonagall looked petrified.<\/p>\n<p>She slowly removed her glasses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHypothetically, of course,\u201d James weakly said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course,\u201d Professor McGonagall softly said, \u201cWell\u2026Mister Potter\u2026<i>hypothetically<\/i>\u2026I\u2019d have to say that that is, indeed, true. However, it is also extremely dangerous to become an Animagus and one cannot officially begin the process until they\u2019re of age.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>James nodded\u00a0before asking, \u201cAnd what process is that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPotter-\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHypothetically, Professor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight,\u201d Professor McGonagall skeptically said, \u201cHypothetically, it is an extremely complicated process. It would take years of hard work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFascinating,\u201d James innocently said, \u201cAnd\u2026err\u2026hypothetically\u2026do you know where I might find some books to look up this process? It sounds very interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Professor McGonagall rubbed her eyes and said, \u201cI have not memorized the layout of the library, Mister Potter. That would be a question for Madam Pince. However, any book that you find will tell you what I already have &#8211; that you cannot become an Animagus until you\u2019re the age of seventeen!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course,\u201d James cried, \u201cI\u2019m just looking hypothetically.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>oOo<\/p>\n<p>James tried not to vomit as he approached Professor McGonagall after class.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAh, Potter,\u201d Professor McGonagall cried, \u201cI was hoping to talk to you. You have seemed nauseous for days. I want you to report to Madam Pomfrey for a Pepperup Potion. The flu\u2019s been going around.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The thirteen-year-old\u2019s eyes widened and he quickly said, \u201cOh, that\u2019s not necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He nearly gagged and added, \u201cProfessor, hypothetically-\u201c<\/p>\n<p>She groaned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c-what would you suggest to help rid one\u2019s taste buds of the taste of mandrake leaves?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was Professor McGonagall\u2019s turn to have widened eyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHypothetically, of course.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Professor McGonagall sighed and curtly said, \u201cWell\u2026hypothetically\u2026I would suggest a bit of mint. Perhaps a bit of chocolate. Potter-\u201c<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks, Professor!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>James made a dart for the door.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPotter!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He sighed and turned back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHypothetically,\u201d Professor McGonagall quietly said, \u201cIf an underaged wizard were to attempt to become an Animagus and he was caught\u2026he would face severe consequences. Including life in Azkaban.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>James stared at her for a moment.<\/p>\n<p>At long last, he softly said, \u201cWell, hypothetically, I suppose that wizard ought not to get caught then.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>oOo<\/p>\n<p>James frantically knocked on Professor McGonagall\u2019s door.<\/p>\n<p>She whisked it open, sporting a dressing gown. It was, after all, three o\u2019clock in the morning. The fourteen-year-old tried to act nonchalant as he fixed the pointed hat that was strangely perched on his head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood evening, Professor!\u201d James pleasantly said, \u201cHow are you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s wrong, Potter?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHypothetically-\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, yes, get on with it!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She was getting quite sick of the questions; he was asking them almost once a week!<\/p>\n<p>\u201c-how would you get rid of antlers?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Professor McGonagall stared at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHypothetically, of course?\u201d Professor McGonagall finally asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She shook her head and said, \u201cHypothetically, that student would need to Professor Slughorn and ask him to give them a Cornibus potion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCornibus?\u201d James repeated.<\/p>\n<p>Professor McGonagall nodded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlright, thanks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPotter,\u201d Professor McGonagall quietly said, \u201cHypothetically\u2026if a student is going to great lengths just to spend one evening a month with his friend, he is a very foolish man.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>James flinched.<\/p>\n<p>Professor McGonagall then smiled and added, \u201cBut also a very brave one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>oOo<\/p>\n<p>James was finding it rather hard to remain calm.<\/p>\n<p>He couldn\u2019t supress the smile that was plastered on his face.<\/p>\n<p>When the bell finally rang, signaling the end of class, he practically leapt out of his seat. Still, he patiently waited as the rest of the students left the classroom.<\/p>\n<p>Professor McGonagall came over and gave him a quizzical look.<\/p>\n<p>James glanced around, ensuring that they were alone.<\/p>\n<p>He leaned forward and quietly said, \u201cHypothetically\u2026it worked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Professor McGonagall\u2019s mouth turned up at the ends.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHypothetically, I\u2019m glad,\u201d Professor McGonagall whispered, \u201cAnd very proud.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks, Professor,\u201d James mumbled, \u201cHypothetically, of course.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He chuckled and ducked as she swatted at him.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Hypothetically, this is one of my favorite things ever.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>queenofthepuddingbrains: marauders4evr: Hypothetically: A Oneshot James\u2019 stomach churned as he approached Professor McGonagall\u2019s office.
