OMG. So I was walking back to my apartment and I heard some footsteps and I turned around and there was this guy running straight for me. I started panicking thinking he wanted to wear my skin as a dress. He gets closer and sees me, looking startled. And then he goes, \u201cOMG I DIDN\u2019T SEE YOU I\u2019M SO SORRY. I WAS RUNNING BECAUSE I\u2019M SCARED OF THE DARK.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Phil Coulson has not survived for this long by having poor field instincts.<\/p>\n

As soon as he hears pounding footsteps, he is immediately reaching for the small knife in his jacket pocket, curling his other hand into a fist. He turns his head to the side, sees a blocky figure getting closer in the shadowed light of the street lamps. Not HYDRA, not if he\u2019s alone – a merc, maybe?\u00a0<\/p>\n

The guy keeps running closer and Phil gives up the pretense of walking. He plants his feet on the sidewalk and turns around.<\/p>\n

He only sees a blur of purple and hears mumbled curses before suddenly the man squeals<\/i>\u00a0and whole-body flinches.<\/p>\n

\u201cHoly shit, dude, you nearly gave me a heart attack!\u201d<\/p>\n

Phil keeps one hand on his knife.\u00a0\u201cSays the man running full speed at me in the middle of a deserted street at 2am.\u201d<\/p>\n

The guy stops clutching his chest and starts palming the back of his neck instead.\u00a0\u201cUh, yeah. Funny story. I wasn\u2019t running at you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWho were you running at?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat? No, I wasn\u2019t running at anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Phil squints.\u00a0\u201cWho were you running from, then?\u201d<\/p>\n

The street lamps really are shitty around here, but Phil swears he sees a blush creeping up the man\u2019s cheeks.\u00a0\u201cI was running from the dark.\u201d<\/p>\n

Phil blinks.\u00a0\u201cSorry?\u201d<\/p>\n

The guy huffs.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m scared of the dark, okay? I was trying to get home really fast.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou were trying to run away from the dark<\/i>?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShit can\u2019t get me if I\u2019m running, dude.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCome on then,\u201d Phil says, resigned to the fact this isn\u2019t even in the top 10 weirdest things to happen to him in Brooklyn.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ll walk you home. Protect you from the dark.\u201d<\/p>\n

The man steps forward, directly under the light, and Phil swallows. He\u2019s kind of gorgeous, and Phil is in yesterday\u2019s suit looking tired as hell, and there\u2019s no way this guy is going to\u2013<\/p>\n

\u201cMy hero,\u201d he hears, a second before a large, warm hand wraps around his forearm.<\/p>\n

They don\u2019t get more than six feet down the sidewalk before the guy tilts his body toward Phil.\u00a0\u201cYou know, it\u2019d be good to have your phone number. Just in case I ever get caught out in the dark again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Phil rolls his lips together to stop his smile.\u00a0\u201cJust in case.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
