bucky says you can\u2019t die if you\u2019re wearing the wrong dog tags (\u201cit\u2019s just not allowed\u201d<\/i>), and it\u2019s part-joke, part-superstition, part-something else he can\u2019t name<\/p>\n

they start trading dog tags before missions as a silent promise to each other that they\u2019ll both make it back in one piece, and eventually, they just stop trading back. something about carrying bucky\u2019s name against his skin makes steve feel safer, braver<\/p>\n

when bucky falls he takes steve\u2019s name with him into the abyss instead of his own\u00a0<\/p>\n

steve still has bucky\u2019s name around his neck when they pull him out of the ice<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
