Is it so hard for everyone to either mind their own damn business and\/or treat each other decently regardless of gender, identity, race, religion, ethnicity, or sexuality so that we don\u2019t have to worry about that sort of thing??\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/b286971f667a803a15b504ef2b0a57ab\/tumblr_inline_nqsjhc0WjW1rlfhzq_500.gif\" alt=\"image\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Maybe the part that irritates me the most about tonight is that, even as I walked, I couldn\u2019t help thinking that &#8211; should something happen to me &#8211; the police or whoever heard about it would very likely be quick to ask why I was out so late in the first place. Because clearly a young woman has no right to expect safety while walking her dog because <i>it\u2019s late at night and you should be home with the doors locked.<\/i><\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/9d30892d9ce61424327bc450ebf36dda\/tumblr_inline_nqsjqeE7SI1rlfhzq_500.gif\" alt=\"image\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I walk my dog sometimes at 9 or 10 at night and usually it\u2019s okay but one time somebody pulled up in a truck and wanted to know directions. So I stood like 6 feet back with my dog between us because I sure as hell wasn\u2019t going to get close.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I definitely know that feeling! When I\u2019m walking alone in town or wherever (I did this on campus at university, too) I often take out my cell phone and have pretend conversations. It\u2019s not the best deterrent, but if someone were to have unsavory intentions towards me, they might be less inclined to act if they think there\u2019s a \u201cwitness\u201d on the other line.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But then the flip side of that is you don\u2019t want to look like a distracted target either.<\/p>\n<p>Can\u2019t win for losing, can you?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>dozmuffinxc: merindab: dozmuffinxc: *hugs* It isn\u2019t fair, and it\u2019s not OK.
